Job Description - Volunteer Engagement & Neighborhood Revitalization Manager

JOB TITLE: Volunteer Engagement & Neighborhood Revitalization Manager  


FLSA STATUS: Exempt  


DATE: January 27, 2026  


REPORTS TO: Assistant Housing Director  



ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION  


Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, Missouri Inc. (HFHS) brings people  together to build homes, communities and hope.  



PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB  


The Volunteer Engagement & Neighborhood Revitalization Manager is fully committed to the mission of Habitat  for Humanity as set forth in the affiliate covenant and works with the Housing team, in collaboration with all staff  members, to disseminate information, recruit, educate, orient and retain affiliate volunteers while ensuring that  volunteers have positive, productive experiences. This manager also works to establish connections in the  community for the Neighborhood Revitalization Program and strives to improve an entire neighborhood by  working hand-in-hand with residents to address the community’s goals of beautification, community, housing,  health and safety.  



ESSENTIAL VOLUNTEER FUNCTIONS & PERFORMANCE AREAS - Other duties may be  assigned  


Communicate with all areas of the organization to identify volunteer needs. This includes the timing of builds and maintaining an adequate     number of volunteers for ReStore, construction and special events.


● Identify new volunteer opportunities, capacity building projects and partnerships for HFHS. 


Ensure that partner homebuyers have volunteer opportunities throughout the organization and access to flexible scheduling in order to         complete their required sweat equity hours. 


Lead outreach, promotion, recruitment, scheduling and assigning, and retention of volunteers in conjunction with HFHS needs, goals, and     objectives. 


Work with the Marketing Manager to maintain and promote volunteer opportunities via website and social media. 


Manage “volunteer@habitat” email account with timely responses or dispersal of emails to the appropriate staff member. 


Screen and place volunteers for specific needs; design and implement methods for timely and effective information, screening, response,     and scheduling of all volunteer inquiries. 


Manage volunteer assignments and scheduling for key HFHS events, including Give5, Day of Caring and Women Build activities. 


Be aware of potential obstacles to volunteer scheduling (e.g., technology, literacy) and include flexible opportunities to include all who           want to participate. 


Regularly evaluate volunteer programs with department heads to retain and improve ongoing volunteerism.


● Complete all paperwork and maintain good relationships with all of our long term volunteer agencies, and 


   work training and light duty associates.  


Record volunteer hours for activity reports. 


Maintain volunteer database with up-to-date, relevant and accurate information. 


Attend college/university Habitat Chapter meetings and assist with setting goals and collecting annual Memos of Understanding. 


Develop, disseminate, retrieve, and file sign up forms, waivers, safety guides, and volunteer experience surveys. 


Conduct Background checks 


Maintain onboarding/offboarding procedures for ReStore and Construction volunteers 


Develop and lead a formal volunteer recognition program, including recognition events 


Assist with and participate in HFHS special events such as home kickoffs, house dedications and fundraising events. 


Organize and manage partner family education classes 


Manage and track partner family sweat equity hours 


Assist in other areas of the Development Department as needed 



ESSENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE  AREAS - Other duties may be assigned  


Lead NR efforts by working with HFHS staff, NR Committee members, partner neighborhood residents and coalition partners to improve         the quality of life and placemaking in partner neighborhood(s). 


Establish connections with government and nonprofit organizations to advocate for HFHS, affordable housing, and vibrant, safe                       neighborhoods. 


Strengthen civic partnerships resulting in community wide development strategies and placemaking.


● Research and advocate for sustainable and inclusive housing policies on national, state and local levels. 


● Assist residents and neighborhood leaders in developing and sustaining processes to identify, prioritize and achieve goals with the                 neighborhood. 


Create a flexible, replicable model that can be utilized in other neighborhoods. 


Encourage residents to act on behalf of their common interests through volunteering and other community engagement strategies. 


Deliver presentations and assist other staff with community outreach and activities. 


Basic knowledge of HFHS’ Preservation and Repair products, and work to develop initiatives. 


Attend the Habitat Neighborhood Revitalization (NR) meetings, and Woodland Heights Board and general membership meetings.. 


Work closely with the housing staff and leadership to help identify funding needs for Preservation & Repair, Homebuying, and NR program     functions and activities. 


Local travel and evening/weekend work is required to attend community events and make presentations. Out of state travel may be                 required for training/conference purposes. 



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES  


Commitment to the Habitat for Humanity concept as a Christian housing ministry, core values, principles, and covenant, as well as                 willingness to work on a collaborative team. 


Excellent organization and time management skills 


Enthusiastic, teamwork focused, and strong customer service orientation 


Self-motivated and able to work independently 


Ability to multitask with strong attention to detail 


Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills 


Able to relate to staff, volunteers, donors and patrons of HFHS with tact, diplomacy and flexibility


● Working experience and knowledge of volunteer cultivation, retention and recognition 


Ability and skill to motivate and retain volunteers 


Proficient in all Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint 


Broad working knowledge of database management 


Flexible and willing to grow with this role, and be present at job and event sites 


Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information, research and collect data, use intuition and experience to complement data and             design workflows and procedures 


Work with and present numerical data effectively 


Understand and follow detailed written and oral instructions 


Ability to understand and utilize computers and other technology 


Working knowledge of office machines, multi-line phone system, email, and web page updates 



EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS  


1-2 years of demonstrated success in recruiting, coordinating and recognizing a large volunteer base, and coordinating multiple projects       simultaneously. 


Valid and clean drivers license 


Knowledge of CRM software preferred 


Bachelor’s degree preferred 



PHYSICAL CONTEXT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT  


Must be able to see, read documents, and use a computer 75-100% 


Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with team members, partner homebuyers, volunteers, and the general public 75-100% 


Must be able to sit for long periods of time 75-100% 


Must be able to move about the work area, at job sites, and at community events 75-100% 


Must be able to type and use equipment and electronic devices 75-100% 


Must be able to occasionally climb, stoop, or kneel to file documents and remove supplies or other items from the storage room 0-24% 


Some evening and weekend communications and events required 0-24% 



Working Conditions  


The work environment is usually a well-lighted, environmentally controlled indoor office environment with  a moderate level of noise. Periodic travel to work sites, events, committee meetings, or Board meeting  locations required.
