Job Description - VP, Ag Relationship Manager

Description

The VP Agricultural Relationship Manager is responsible for directing activities within the Loan Department, including sales leadership of the ag lenders. Position ensures loan requests are within the program guidelines and overall mission of the bank. Structures and maintains loans to provide profitability and minimize risk to the Bank as well as to meet the financing needs and repayment capacity of the borrower. This role is responsible for developing new business, performing all loan activities within prescribed limits and servicing a major loan portfolio.

What You Will Do:

  • Participates as part of the bank’s management team to make key strategic decisions about all areas of the bank.
  • Establishes and monitors performance of ag lenders and cash management staff.
  • Prepares annual department budget. Analyze historical data, project future income/expenses. 
  • Prepares ag fund management reports. Project monthly loan portfolio changes.
  • Primary/secondary point of customer contact. Advises Bank staff, originating lenders and borrowers as to programs, capital structure, and financing alternatives to best meet project needs. 
  • Reviews ag loan policies and procedures and make suggestions for changes/additions to bank’s senior loan officer.
  • Participates as a member of the Credit Committee. Review and analyze commercial and farm loan presentations prepared for credit committee. 
  • Analyzes call report and UBPR data, asset quality, management assessments and projections to determine credit worthiness, and structure appropriately to match customer and Bank needs.
  • Analyzes financial information for credit worthiness, assist credit analysts with credit presentation, present loan requests, make loan decisions or recommendations, review commitment letters, review input sheets.
  • Consistently participates in community activities, including attending various community events and serving on local and non-profit boards. 
  • Call on existing clients and prospective clients to ensure the bank is providing products and services that meet the needs of the clients, while also contributing to the bank’s overall profitability.
  • Meet or exceed client and prospect calling goals as well as specific sales goals for loan and deposit growth as well as other cross sale opportunities. 
  • Actively upholds the organization’s vision, mission and values, encompassing mutual respect, honoring commitments, working with integrity and accepting responsibility for own actions.
  • Assures compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management, overall safety and soundness, and the bank’s compliance with all regulatory requirements, i.e. Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act, etc. and insures that the department and all personnel adhere to the same.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university. 
  • 8 or more years of related financial industry experience and/or training. Work related experience should consist of an in-depth background in lending, business planning, sales, and people-leadership. 
  • Advanced experience, knowledge, and training in progressively responsible branch or department operations, lending, and supervisory activities.
  • Intermediate knowledge of general accounting, payroll, budgeting, and related accounting and record keeping systems in a financial institution.
  • Advanced knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and Bank accounting policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to provide leadership, supervision and training for multiple employees using positive supervisory techniques to ensure maximum productivity; demonstrated ability in organization and delegation skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Exceptional math skills; calculate interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of bar graphs.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, speak clearly to customers and employees.
  • Thorough understanding of management procedures; ability to plan department or Bank activities (setting objectives, developing strategies, budgeting, and developing policies and procedures); initiative to organize various functions necessary to accomplish department or Bank activities; effectively staff (selecting, training and developing employees); directing employees towards the desired objectives (delegating, motivating, resolving problems); controlling the function (developing performance standards, measuring results, taking corrective action and rewarding employees as appropriate).
