Job Description - VP, MA Business Development

Job Summary

This is a unique opportunity to lead a key/high visibility business for a global insurer. Specifically, this position will help lead a $1.8 billion dollar business including a dominant market position in Massachusetts. Working closely with our Product Management and the Senior Management team, this position is primarily responsible setting the strategy and profitably growing our top line with key metrics including quotes, sales, retention, and profit.

The VP of Massachusetts Business Development will lead the strategic growth initiatives. In this role, he/she will oversee all sales efforts and collaborate with multiple departments to execute key initiatives that span across all areas. Maintaining and developing strong independent agency relationships, through the management of the Business Development team, as well as his/her own day to day functions will be a primary focus for this role. This role is responsible for managing the agency plant, securing new agency appointments, book transfers, and other commitments to achieve approved sales and profitability targets.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education:

Bachelor's degree required. Master's Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent related experience preferred.

Experience:

9 - 11 years or Master's Degree equivalent plus 7 - 9 years.

Must have a complete understanding of MA Insurance and the Agency market to included practices, standards and concepts within the field of work and broad business segment
Minimum of 10 years' independent agency sales management experience preferred
Experience with the acquisition and management of independent agents including driving agencies to achieve quote, conversion, sales, and retention and profit goals
Deep knowledge of the competitive landscape in Massachusetts for personal and commercial lines insurance products
Solid leadership and staff management experience. Proven capability to attract and retain high performing sales team in the independent agency space
Strong relationship management experience and the ability to effectively influence and negotiate successful outcomes
Familiarity with risk profiles and the use of standard and non-standard insurance products
Proven track record of building and maintaining profitable business
Strong focus on establishing and exceeding key metrics to drive profitable top line growth
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement creative and innovative solutions to problems
Strong communication skills to inform, educate and present information to subordinates, senior leaders and company committees
