Job Summary
Provides indirect and direct patient care in the Emergency Department. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff and medical staff. Implements directions from physicians and nursing staff. Knowledge of mission and core values. Participates in hospital performance improvement.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Enters and verifies orders in the computer system. Documents the time orders were placed in the computer on Emergency Department record.
· Communicates appropriately and clearly to Charge Nurse, coworkers and Physicians.
· Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
· Takes specimens to the Laboratory as needed.
· Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
· Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
· Interacts professionally with patients and their families and provides explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.
· Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
· Maintains age specific safety precautions.
· Obtains appropriate nursing staff to assist physicians in the care of the patient.
· Maintains good working relationships both within the department and with other departments.
· Meets current standards and policies in documentation.
· Answers telephone and intercom in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate personnel or family.
· Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
· Participates in performance improvement activities.
· Maintains regulatory requirements, nursing, Hospital policies, procedures, and standards, including infection control, safety regulations and guidelines.
· Attends staff meetings in accordance with Hospital policy
· Completes annual educational requirements.
Required Skills/Abilities
Education & Experience
· High School Graduate required
· A.A degree for a Medical Assistant preferred
· One year Ward Clerk experience in an acute care hospital desirable
Job Type: Per-Diem, Variable Shift
Pay: $31-$41/hour
