Job Description - Waste & UPW Commissioning Lead

We are seeking an experienced Waste / Ultra-Pure Water (UPW) Commissioning Lead to oversee the commissioning of UPW production systems and waste treatment systems for a state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing facility. This role requires a strong technical background in water treatment, waste systems, and semiconductor industry standards, with a focus on ensuring systems meet stringent performance, safety, and environmental compliance requirements.


Responsibilities:




Planning & Documentation:



  • Develop and implement comprehensive commissioning plans for UPW and waste systems aligned with ASHRAE standards and semiconductor industry best practices.

  • Review and validate design documents, focusing on water purification trains, waste neutralization systems, and chemical waste collection infrastructure.

  • Create and manage verification checklists, test procedures, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with vendors like Evoqua, Saltworks, and others.


Technical Execution:


UPW Systems Commissioning:



  • Lead the commissioning of the complete UPW production system, including:


    • Industrial City Water (ICW) pretreatment

    • Reverse osmosis and deionization systems

    • UV treatment and ultrafiltration

    • Distribution loops and point-of-use verification


  • Ensure water quality meets semiconductor-grade specifications (resistivity, TOC, bacteria, particles, dissolved gases).

  • Validate temperature, pressure, and flow control across the distribution network.


Waste Systems Commissioning:



  • Oversee commissioning of all waste systems, including:


    • Industrial Waste Neutralization (IWN)

    • Fluoride, sulfuric, and solvent waste collection and treatment systems


  • Verify chemical neutralization processes and validate instrumentation, controls, and discharge compliance with environmental regulations.


Integrated Systems Testing:



  • Perform load, surge capacity, and emergency response scenario testing.

  • Validate alarms, interlocks, and system interfaces with building utilities.

  • Coordinate with facility teams and regulatory bodies for compliance and approvals.


Quality Assurance & Documentation:



  • Maintain and manage commissioning documentation, including test results, non-conformance tracking, and system performance reports.

  • Generate water quality certification reports and final commissioning closeout packages.

  • Review O&M manuals and develop system troubleshooting guides for operations teams.


Coordination & Management:



  • Manage third-party vendors, contractors, and commissioning agents.

  • Interface with EHS teams for environmental compliance documentation.

  • Support training of facility operations teams on UPW and waste system operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role.



Skills Required:




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in UPW and waste system commissioning within the semiconductor industry.

  • Strong understanding of UPW production, industrial waste treatment, environmental compliance, and chemical handling safety.

  • Experience with analytical water quality testing and effluent monitoring methods.

  • Expertise in process control systems, alarms, and interlocks for water and waste systems.

  • Excellent technical documentation, coordination, and stakeholder communication skills.



Education / Licenses / Certifications



  • Bachelor's degree in relevant studies is strongly preferred, but not required.

  • OSHA 30 is required; NFPA 70E training and valid certification preferred.

  • Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable.

Hourly Rate:
$50$70 USD

Eligibility for per diem is determined by company policy and is applicable only under specific circumstances, based on job location and travel requirements.

Monthly Per Diem (If applicable):
$1,400$1,400 USD
