TITLE:                       Garbage Disposal Assistant

POSITON:                 ON CALL 

Position Description:

The garbage disposal assistant assists the garbage disposal truck operator in picking up and slinging garbage from refuse cans to garbage disposal trucks and ensuring that it reaches garbage disposal areas in a proper and timely manner.

The work of an individual working at this position is purely physical, which means that it is essential to possess great physical agility and dexterity.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Take orders from supervisors to determine which truck and areas have been assigned for garbage pickup tasks.


• Assist garbage disposal truck operators in mapping proper routes.


• Navigate short and safe routes to destinations, ensuring that timeliness is kept a priority.


• Empty refuse cans into the garbage disposal truck, ensuring that all receptacles are placed back in their proper areas.


• Ascertain that no garbage container block the main entrance to a house, porch, or mailbox.


• Provide customers with information and education on proper methods and techniques to handle garbage disposal.


• Use proper safety gear to avoid sicknesses and contamination.

Qualifications:

• Ability to follow pre-determined schedule for all pickup and disposal routes.


• Ability to safely operate garbage disposal equipment.


• Thorough understanding of safe highway practices and motor vehicle regulations.


• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Drug-Free Workplace Policy:

As a condition of employment, applicants must consent to pre-employment drug testing prior to appointment, and abide by the Drug-Free Workplace Policy while employed by the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas.

Indian Preference:

Preference in filing vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472).  Verification must be submitted with the application if claiming Indian Preference.  Consideration will be given to non-Indian applicants in the absence of qualified Indian Preference eligible.
