Position Summary:
Under general supervision of the Wastewater Utility Manager, is responsible for every aspect of the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. An employee in this class must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgement.

Duties/Responsibilities:
· Responsible for carrying out administrative and program standards for various Wastewater Treatment activities and services.
· Assist the Wastewater Utility Manager in carrying out administrative duties as needed.
· Advises subordinates on operating problems and assists in resolving such problems.
· Supervises subordinates, including but not limited to Assistant Wastewater Superintendent, Wastewater Treatment Operators, Operator Trainees, Maintenance Workers, and Technicians in carrying out daily activities.
· Aid in the field to Wastewater Treatment Operators as needed.
· Handles much of the paperwork involved in the day-to-day operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
· Responsible for development of all Standard Operating Procedures for the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
· Provide guidance and training opportunities for all Wastewater Treatment personnel.
· Responsible for wastewater treatment compliance for the City.
· Performs other duties as required, including being available to wastewater operators after day shift and weekends for trouble shooting and problem solving.
· Manages and supervises the wastewater treatment plant lab ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, while maintaining a vigorous quality control program.
· Monitors and coordinates the Danville Industrial Pretreatment Program.
· Performs other duties as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the daily operation and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Plant.
· Ability to lead and develop subordinate staff.
· Strong independent decision-making abilities.
· Knowledge of occupational safety and health practices and principles.
· Ability to work with minimal supervision.
· Ability to work in a team environment, with the ability to work across all levels of City officials, employees, agencies, organizations, and the public.
· Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as job duties demand.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to learn and adhere to all procurement policies and procedures.
· Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
· Capability to meet deadlines as required.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Ability to read and understand maps and blueprints/plans.
· Must be able to prepare reports as required.
Education and Experience:
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, biology or similar field is preferred.
· 3-5 years of wastewater treatment experience is required.
· Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license.
Certifications:
· Class IV Wastewater Treatment License is required.
Physical Requirements:
· Must have 20/20 vision with or without corrective lenses.
· Must have adequate hearing levels with or without assistance to alarms and laboratory measuring equipment.
· Standing for prolonged periods of time.
· Ability to lift to 50lbs occasionally.
· Twisting, stooping, bending, and walking on a regular basis.
· Ability to crawl in and out of tight and confined spaces.
· Ability to climb up and down ladders, and over rough and irregular ground surfaces.
Compensation:
· $57,996 - $85,473 annually. Candidate's starting salary will be commensurate with their level of wastewater treatment experience.
