Water Billing Clerk (Finance)


 


The Village of Schaumburg is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused professional to join our Water Billing Division.  In this role, you’ll help ensure accurate utility billing by analyzing water meter readings, maintaining account data, and providing high-quality customer service related to water usage and billing inquiries.  If you enjoy problem-solving, working with data, and supporting your community, this could be a great fit.


 


JOB SUMMARY:


This position performs a variety of water billing functions within the water billing division, such as compiling and analyzing meter readings for accurate water billing, providing customer service regarding water billing and water usage issues, and processing activity in the water billing database.


 
JOB DUTIES:


1.    Compiles and maintains the database for water billing and customer service; also used by other departments for verification of rentals, ownership information, occupancy, and phone numbers.
2.    Ability to post and verify daily payments from all sources and run monthly billing, penalty, and shut-off processes.
3.    Responsible for gathering and reviewing actual or estimated customer water reads to calculate amounts due based on current water rate schedules every month as well as when property has been transferred from one customer to another.  This may include adjusting, issuing refunds, or setting up payment arrangements to assist residents. 
4.    Reviews and completes incoming customer service requests including customer inquiries regarding billing, final billing, variances in consumption, and any other customer needs that are associated with the water account.
5.    Investigates, analyzes, schedules, and generates work orders based on public works technician availability and the issues outstanding.  These responsibilities include all areas of the water division, such as billing and final read billing, variances in consumption, and customer service.
6.    Compiles and maintains water shutoff list.
7.    Maintains hard copy records of service orders and payments.
8.    Participates in special division and interdepartmental projects as assigned.
9.    Performs other duties as assigned.


 


QUALIFICATIONS:
1.    Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
2.    A minimum of one year of experience in a customer service-related field with considerable analytical skills in evaluating and resolving customer service issues/complaints.
3.    Basic knowledge of water billing principles and procedures is preferred.
4.    Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems.


 


STARTING PAY RATE:  $21.82 - $24.32 per hour based on a 35-hour workweek.  Salary dependent on qualifications.  The salary range for this position is $21.82 - $31.81. This position is represented by a union; you may refer to the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement available on our website.
