Job Description - Water Energy Marshall

The Water Energy Marshal plays a mission-critical role in managing water systems during the construction of data centers. This position ensures water-related risks are identified, mitigated, and controlled to protect sensitive infrastructure and support safe and efficient project delivery. The Water Energy Marshal will oversee temporary and permanent water systems, coordinate water-based testing and flushing, and enforce environmental and safety compliance across all project phases.


Responsibilities:




  • Monitor and regulate water usage and flow across the construction site to prevent flooding or infrastructure damage.

  • Inspect and maintain the integrity of temporary and permanent water systems, including fire water, potable water, chilled water, hoses, and chillers.

  • Install, monitor, and maintain leak detection systems in high-risk areas (e.g., underfloor plenums, mechanical rooms).

  • Develop, implement, and enforce water control protocols, including release, containment, and shutoff procedures aligned with environmental and safety standards.

  • Conduct regular walkthroughs of data halls and mission-critical zones to identify signs of water intrusion or system failure.

  • Coordinate with MEP teams and commissioning agents to support flushing, chlorination, pressure testing, and water sampling activities.

  • Respond rapidly to water-related incidents; execute emergency response plans to protect critical infrastructure.

  • Document all water management activities, incidents, and inspections; maintain system logs and permit records.

  • Train subcontractors and site personnel on water safety, compliance protocols, and response procedures.

  • Communicate with stakeholders including general contractors, facility teams, and engineers to ensure water system integrity and support construction milestones.

  • Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role.


Skills Required:




  • Extensive knowledge of water management in construction environments, preferably in mission-critical facilities such as data centers.

  • Proven experience overseeing temporary and permanent water systems.

  • Understanding of construction sequencing, MEP infrastructure, and commissioning procedures involving water utilities.

  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards including local plumbing codes, NFPA, and EPA regulations.

  • Skilled in executing water pressure tests, chlorination, system flushing, and sampling.

  • Proficient in documentation and reporting practices.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with construction, engineering, and commissioning teams.


Education / Licenses / Certifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, construction management or a related field preferred, but not required.

  • OSHA 30.

  • Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable.
