Weekend Meteorologist

KOAM News Now is seeking a dedicated Weekend Meteorologist to join our award-winning Sky Watch Weather Team. Serving as a trusted weather source for the Four State Area—where Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma intersect—KOAM plays a crucial role in keeping our community informed and safe. If you’re passionate about meteorology and eager to make an impact in one of the nation’s top severe weather markets, we want to hear from you!

Position Highlights:

• Deliver precise and timely weather forecasts that inform and protect viewers in Joplin/Pittsburg and the surrounding Four States region.

• Work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays, adapting to the demands of a busy weather market ranked among the top five nationally for severe weather.

• Utilize cutting-edge technologies and digital platforms to engage with our audience across TV, social media, mobile apps, websites, and the KOAM+ streaming channel.

• Collaborate with a dynamic team to innovate and expand our digital and social weather coverage.

• Actively participate in community events and station promotions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Forecast weather conditions up to a week in advance for the Four State Area.

• Develop clear, impactful weather maps and graphics to communicate forecasts and potential weather impacts.

• Present forecasts live on air and through digital recordings for apps and the KOAM+ streaming channel.

• Coordinate weather coverage and daily forecasting plans with producers and the news team.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or related field.

• Strong passion for and knowledge of severe weather.

• Ability to use computer models effectively for accurate forecasting.
