Kentucky Derby Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that sits on the front steps of historic ChurchillDowns Racetrack. It is one of the premiere attractions in the Louisville region, celebrating the tradition, history,hospitality and pride of the world-renowned event that is the Kentucky Derby. The Museum welcomes over 258,000visitors annually; a large percentage of those visitors come from outside of Kentucky, journeying from across the countryand the world.Position Purpose:
The primary purpose for this position is to maintain a safe and secure environment by monitoring the Museum andChurchill Store, enforcing security policies, and responding to incidents. This role involves patrolling the Museum,controlling access points, and assisting employees, volunteers, or guests as needed. This role plays a part inupholding the museum’s reputation for excellent guest experience and safety. This position reports directly to theSecurity Manager. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Essential Functions/Accountabilities:
- Monitors the museum & Churchill Downs Store for irregularities, such as security issues, and safety hazards, and/or emergency situations.
- Prepares appropriate reports in connection with daily activities and incidents in a timely manner.
- Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and any Safety and Security Concerns.
- Assists guests and employee in regards to museum policies and other inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
- Discusses and resolves employee & guest issues as it pertains to museum Safety and Security.
- Oversees customer complaints and concerns as it pertains to museum Safety and Security.
- Implement and execute museum Safety and Security procedures as outlined in the KDM Safety and Security Manual.
- Familiar with and capable of initiating an appropriate response to emergency procedures as set forth by the KDM Safety and Security Policy Manual.
- Familiar with the museum’s layout and emergency exit procedures, as well as the location and operation of safety and emergency equipment.
- This role may be required to mitigate biological hazards and will utilize proper personal protection equipment (PPE) as such.
- Turns lights on and off, unlocks and locks doors, and conducts security checks in accordance with established schedules and procedures.
- Monitors activities through the museum and surrounding area via the video surveillance system.
- Responsible for loss prevention and loss control strategies.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or Equivalent.
· 1 - 2 year of security guard experience, preferably in a Museum setting. (or other Emergency Service experience)
· Ethical integrity & Professionalism, essential for enforcing policies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering trust among museum guests and team members.
· Ability to meet the schedule requirements.
· Shall obtain and maintain a First Aid, CPR and AED Certification within 90 days of employment.
· Must be able to sufficiently pass a criminal background check.
· Training in Emergency Response & Crisis Management (e.g. Fire safety, evacuation protocols, and other emergency procedures)
· Proficiency with Safety and Security equipment, including CCTV, Alarms, Fire Extinguishers, and other emergency devices.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to remain calm and professional in high pressure or emergency situations.
Work Schedule:
· Approximately 15 hours per week, hours may vary (open all days of the week).
· All team members are required to work additional hours during Derby season. This includes but is not limited to working shifts on Thurby, Oaks, Derby, and the Sunday of Derby weekend. All team members are also required to work the week of the National FFA conference and Breeder’s Cup (when held in Louisville).
