- Perform visual inspection of manual and robotic welds against the applicable welding code, drawings and weld symbols; accept, reject or route nonconforming welds per the reaction plan.
- Maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR); ensure welders and robotic-weld operators are qualified to the applicable procedure and that qualifications remain current.
- Determine and document when non-destructive testing (NDT) is required for critical welds; coordinate NDT and review results for disposition.
- Establish and maintain weld-inspection checklists, sampling plans and acceptance criteria; integrate weld checks into the control plan for critical assembly operations.
- Monitor robotic welding setups and first articles; verify program/fixture changes do not degrade weld quality.
- Record inspection results electronically within the ERP/quality database; analyze weld-defect trends and escalate recurring issues to Engineering, Production and Quality leadership.
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective action for weld-related defects, rework and scrap.
- Coach welders and operators on workmanship standards and defect prevention; support training and qualification of new welding personnel.
- Support new product introduction by reviewing weldments for inspectability and feeding weld acceptance criteria into PFMEA and Control Plans.
- Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
- Protect Chamberlain Group’s and Systems’ reputation by keeping information confidential.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or technical school certificate/degree
- 3+ years of weld inspection or welding experience in a structural or heavy metal-fabrication environment
- Experience interpreting weld symbols, fabrication drawings and welding codes
- Working knowledge of the applicable structural welding code (confirm governing code, e.g. AWS D1.1)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols and inspection plans
- Working knowledge of visual weld-inspection tools and gauges (fillet gauges, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of NDT methods and when each is applicable
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ERP/quality-database systems
- Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification, or equivalent recognized weld-inspection certification
- Ability to work on the manufacturing floor near active welding operations using required PPE

The pay range for this position is $21.59 - $35.65/hr. Base pay offered may vary depending on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. In addition to base pay, also offered is a comprehensive benefits package and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). This position is eligible for participation in a short-term incentive plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
