Position Summary: Join our team to weld, repair, and construct equipment for various City departments under direct supervision. This role involves journey-level work requiring skill in using acetylene and electric arc welding equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Weld and construct items such as equipment, buckets, trailer hitches, truck frames, and more.
Fabricate handrails, gates, truck bodies, and trailers.
Repair and overhaul welding equipment; sharpen tools; heat and straighten parts.
Assist with snow removal as needed.
Operate equipment when required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience and/or training in welding and fabrication.
Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
Special Requirements:
Traffic Control and Flagging license from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Transportation.
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the state.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of City methods, procedures, and policies for Welder duties.
Expertise in welding and fabrication principles and practices.
Familiarity with laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations.
Knowledge of departmental organization and related agencies.
Proficiency in departmental terminology and professional language.
Awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to maintain cooperative relationships within and outside the department.
Competence in data compilation and judgment of standards.
Capability to follow instructions and respond to requests.
Proficiency in operating and maneuvering equipment and tools.
Skill in utilizing reference data, such as blueprints and welding manuals.
Mathematical skills for performing calculations and interpreting graphs.
Ability to execute instructions in various forms with some independent judgment.
