Welder

The Welder welds and cuts metal components with a variety of arc and gas welding equipment to repair damaged or worn-out equipment and to fabricate new components.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Welds metal parts (primarily steel and aluminum) together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
• Performs tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
• Cuts and forms angle and plate stock to precise dimensions.
• Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases (or decreases) size of metal parts.
• Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
• Possesses a firm understanding of hydraulic, electrical and safety systems found on heavy equipment. Understands the basic operation of equipment being worked upon.
• Ability to fabricate parts with or without precise drawings.
• May operate other shop machines such as grinder, drill press, lathe, etc.
• Uses measuring devices to obtain required dimensions.
• Exercises safety regarding self and others. Is careful to avoid welding splash from marring equipment surfaces where it is not intended.
• Assigned to welding jobs in the field on project sites. Is responsible for a truck with necessary equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

• Completion of Vocational/Technical school and /or equivalent experience.
• Must possess a mechanical aptitude.
