Are you an experienced welder ready for a new chapter in your career?

The Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) is seeking experienced welders, combination welders, fabricators, and welding professionals to join our team as instructors.

If you have hands-on experience with MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core welding processes and enjoy mentoring others, this is your opportunity to transition from the field into a Welding Instructor role where you can help shape the next generation of skilled trades professionals.

This Welding Instructor opportunity is ideal for professionals exploring welding instructor jobs, combination welder careers, skilled trades education, welding trainer positions, or welding training roles.

No prior teaching experience required. We provide a 5-day paid instructor training program to help you successfully transition into the classroom.

Why Consider Teaching?

Many experienced welders do not initially consider teaching—but those who do often find it to be one of the most rewarding paths in their career.

At AIM, you’ll:

  • Share your real-world welding experience with future skilled trades professionals

  • Enjoy more predictable schedules compared to field work

  • Make a lasting impact on students entering the workforce

  • Continue growing your own technical knowledge while developing others

About the Role

As a Combination Welding Instructor, you will deliver hands-on welding instruction and provide career-focused training to students preparing for careers in welding and related skilled trades industries.

This role is ideal for experienced welders and fabrication professionals who want to combine technical expertise with mentorship and training while delivering instruction in classroom and welding lab environments.

Students are trained in industry-standard welding processes including:

  • MIG Welding (GMAW)

  • TIG Welding (GTAW)

  • Stick Welding (SMAW)

  • Flux-Core Welding (FCAW)

Instruction may also include welding safety, blueprint reading, metal fabrication, measurements and layout, and AWS-aligned welding certification preparation.

Schedule

  • Monday–Thursday: 2:30pm–11:30pm

  • Friday: 6:00am–12:00pm (Friday hours may be flexible)

Please note that final schedules are determined by campus needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach welding techniques, procedures, and safety practices in a hands-on learning environment

  • Deliver instruction in MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core welding processes

  • Demonstrate practical welding and fabrication skills used in industry settings

  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress

  • Support curriculum updates and collaborate with program leadership

  • Help create a structured, engaging, and safety-focused learning environment

  • Maintain classroom, welding lab equipment, and instructional materials

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years of hands-on welding experience required

  • Background in combination welding, fabrication, manufacturing, industrial, or construction welding environments preferred

Certifications

  • American Welding Society (AWS) certification required within the first six (6) months of employment

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, welding safety, and fabrication techniques

  • Interest in mentoring, coaching, and developing students

  • Ability to work in a structured, compliance-driven educational environment

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint

  • Flexibility to support evening schedules as needed
