What You’ll Do:

The Welding Prep Technician is responsible for preparing materials and components for welding operations to ensure quality, accuracy, and efficiency in the production process. This role involves cleaning, grinding, fitting, and staging parts according to specifications and work instructions. The Welding Prep Technician plays a critical role in supporting welders by ensuring proper joint preparation, alignment, and material readiness while maintaining safety and quality standards.

  

· Clean, grind, and prepare metal surfaces to remove rust, paint, oil, and contaminants

· Perform edge preparation such as beveling, chamfering, or deburring as required

· Fit and align components to proper specifications prior to welding

· Use clamps, fixtures, and magnets to hold parts in place for welding

· Assist with tack welding preparation by ensuring proper spacing and positioning

· Inspect materials and parts for quality issues before welding

· Transport and stage materials to support welding operations

· Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition

· Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards

· Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety protocols

What We’re Looking For:

  

· Ability to read and follow work instructions, blueprints, or technical drawings

· Basic knowledge of metal types and welding preparation techniques

· Experience using hand tools, power tools, and grinders safely

· Strong attention to detail with focus on proper fit-up and joint alignment

· Ability to measure and verify dimensions using basic measuring tools

· Ability to identify material defects or inconsistencies

· Basic understanding of shop safety practices and PPE requirements

· Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced production environment

· Effective communication skills when working with welders and supervisors

  

· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday

· Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and reaching

· Ability to lift to 50 pounds regularly

· Frequent use of hands for handling tools and materials

· Ability to safely operate grinders and other fabrication equipment

· Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including steel-toe shoes, gloves, face shields, and safety glasses

  

· Prior experience in a manufacturing or production environment is required

· Previous experience with grinding, material prep, or metal fabrication preferred

· Ability to work the assigned shift consistently
