Wellness Director II

Position Summary

The Wellness Director II is directly accountable to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the day-to-day operations, activities and success of the resident wellness/clinical department, as governed by the center policies, and state and federal regulations. The Wellness Director II validates that the wellness/clinical department continues to develop and maintain high standards for excellence by being knowledgeable of industry changes, trends, and state regulations. Performs other duties as assigned by CEO.

Essential Functions

• Develops and maintains a wellness/clinical service philosophy, objectives, standards of practice, policy and process manuals
• Manages, supervisors and develops plans of actions for assigned community, providing consistent monitoring and follow through
• Establishes systems for care planning, including assessments, service plan focuses, and interventions, objectives, evaluations and long-term planning. Maintains accurate and timely condition reflecting same
• Coordinates care needs with other departments
• Develops and maintains scheduling needs of wellness/clinical department staff, adhering to budget, and staffing guidelines utilizing a written staffing plan
• Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, hiring, disciplining, coaching, firing, and conducting performance appraisals on wellness/clinical department staff with coordination with CEO, and HR
• Demonstrates clear understanding and knowledge of regulation laws and requirements, and survey requirements for state which community resides
• Supervises and coordinates any outside nursing or therapy services that provide care to the resident within the community
• Validates and maintains through coordination with CEO reporting requirements as dictated by state regulations to which the community resides
• Validates, maintains and coordinates quality assurance program for wellness/clinical department services
• Demonstrates dedication to wellness/clinical staff providing opportunities for recognizing a job well done by employees and implementing support programs
• Develop and maintain ongoing wellness/clinical training with staff following state regulations and other training as needed
• Demonstrates dedication to the residents by knowing each residents and their individual needs
• Maintains open communication with CEO regarding resident care, personal or staffing problems and other related topics
• Represents the community to residents’ physicians, and family members of current or potential residents and to the community
• Develop, maintain, and supervisor recruitment programs, and orientations for wellness/clinical personnel
• Understands the relationship with state regulatory agencies and works to maintain positive relationships
• Understands the relationships and maintains open responsive communication with Director of Clinical Services
• Participates with CEO and other department directors in development and maintenance of practices and processes that promote infection control, fire safety, and hazard reduction
• Develops a budget for wellness/clinical department and makes recommendations to CEO
• Develops and maintains a mandatory in-service program for wellness/clinical staff as necessary, required, and needed per resident’s care needs
• Directs the functions and activities of the CEO in his/her absence. Post such delegation in the informational area of the community
• Other duties as assigned appropriate to the position

Education, Licensure and Experience Requirements

• Licensed as a nurse in the state in which the community is located (if necessary, per state regulations)
• Minimum two years’ experience in an assisted living community overseeing a wellness/clinical department
• Maintain necessary certifications and/or licenses as required per state regulations in which community is located

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Must be able to travel and/or attend educational offerings as well as approved offerings by association conference or other entities
• Demonstrated up to date knowledge in current assisted living industry trends, changes, and regulations
• Prior track record of being actively involved in staff development, resident care and services, information seeking and performance management and of making decisions regarding wellness/clinical care at the community
• Active in professional and community organizations

• Demonstrates understanding of the role that psychosocial needs play in the care of resident and in the retention of staff
• Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate concepts at various levels
