Wheelabrator Operator

Basic Function:   

Process aluminum and magnesium sand castings through the wheelabrator machine to achieve a uniform casting surface appearance. The purpose is to remove surface metal irregularities as a result of tooling, grinding, and heat-treat oxidation. 

General Responsibilities:

1. Accurate scanning in and out on jobs and the proper reporting of processed quantities.
2. Wear proper safety equipment; always keep the work area clean and safe.
3. Understand customer requirements, our company’s internal scrap challenges, rework, customer returns, the impact they have on your job and demonstrate the ability to deliver quality & efficient workmanship.
4. Review & inspect all material being used, building self-inspection into everything you make/process.
5. Complete, date and sign-off on all routing information.
6. Perform job tasks in an efficient manner according to given standards.
7. Report any problems or discrepancies to immediate management.

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Understand Wheelabrate M6; Demonstrate correct operation of wheelabrator.
2. Inspect for adequate steel grit to operate machine; verify machine operation.
3. Load castings into wheelabrator and tumble parts for allocated timeframe.
4. Remove castings at the end process and utilize compressed air for removal of remaining grit from castings.
5. Handle castings with care as you place them in transfer baskets & carts.
6. Sign routing paperwork and transport to appropriate department for continued processing.
7. Keep area swept of grit; grit material on floor is a slip hazard.
8. Keep machine supplied with grit at all times, notify supervisor if grit material needs to be ordered.
9. Any other tasks assigned by Supervisor or Lead Person.  

Skills:

1. Basic math skills.
2. Ability to read and understand all procedures required to perform assigned tasks.
3. Communication skills.

Education/Training:

On-the-Job training while working under an experienced operator until position certification is achieved.
