Who We Serve: EMT serves organizations in the St. Louis, Missouri metro and surrounding areas, including neighboring areas in Illinois, as well as Cumberland, Maryland. These organizations include school districts, hospitals, doctor's offices, and more. We also transport individuals and families to and from appointments or simply when they need a ride.
Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Wheelchair Driver to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring safe and dignified transportation for passengers with mobility challenges. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operations involved in loading and unloading passengers into and out of vehicles equipped with lift platforms for stretchers, gurneys, and wheelchairs.
Requirements
During employment with EMT, drivers must maintain a clear MVR.
Drivers must possess a valid driver’s license; class “E” (“for hire”) or higher preferred.
Drivers must not have a driver’s license suspension or revocation for moving traffic violations within the previous three years.
Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.
Physical ability to bend, kneel, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
Must be able to assist passengers in transferring from seated to seated or lying to seated positions safely.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely operate vehicles equipped with lift platforms for transporting passengers with mobility challenges.
Assist passengers in boarding and disembarking from the vehicle, ensuring their comfort and safety.
Provide compassionate and respectful service to all passengers, maintaining their dignity throughout the transportation process.
Ensure timely transportation to and from designated locations.
Conduct regular vehicle inspections to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
Maintain accurate records of transportation services provided.
Collaborate with team members to enhance service delivery and passenger experience.
Skills and Qualifications:
Experience in transportation or caregiving roles preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift and assist passengers with mobility challenges safely.
Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures related to passenger transport.
Compassionate and patient demeanor.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
