Whitney Young Continuation High School provides students in the Crenshaw community with an alternative pathway toward earning a high school diploma in a supportive, student-centered environment.
Whitney Young Continuation High School serves approximately 45-60 students annually in a small school setting focused on academic achievement, credit recovery, social-emotional support, and character development. The student population is approximately 40% Latino and 60% Black/African American. The school is designated as a Title I school, with approximately 97% economically disadvantaged students, 8% English Learners, and 8% Students with Disabilities.
The staff at Whitney Young High School works collaboratively to ensure students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally while preparing them for graduation and postsecondary success. The school emphasizes individualized instruction, relationship-centered practices, and intervention systems designed to meet the unique needs of continuation high school students.

Will demonstrate knowledge and experience in alternative education settings and personalized pathways to graduation, with the ability to design and operationalize systems of support, intervention, and student engagement that promote student success and continuous improvement. The candidate will have experience using disaggregated data to improve academic achievement, attendance, graduation outcomes, and postsecondary readiness for all students. The ideal candidate will utilize the Teaching and Learning Framework to provide actionable feedback that strengthens standards-based instruction, teacher effectiveness, and student outcomes. The candidate will possess knowledge of State, Federal, Title I, and LAUSD policies, procedures, and regulations, including those related to continuation education and student support systems. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience implementing restorative practices, the District’s Discipline Foundation Policy, and School-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) to improve school culture, climate, safety, and belonging. Experience planning and facilitating professional development, building collaborative partnerships with families and community organizations, and supporting diverse student populations, including English Learners, students with disabilities, foster youth, and housing-insecure youth, is highly desirable. Bilingual abilities are preferred.
