Job Description - WI Program Coordinator

Purpose of the position


The Workforce Innovation (WI) Program Coordinator will provide hands-on career learning experiences for youth of all ages, creating a unique and impactful approach to career exploration.  The Coordinator will interact with co-workers, school district representatives, volunteers, and students to ensure students have an engaging learning experience in Career Commons.



The WI Program Coordinator will assist the Program Manager with curriculum development, assist with iterating the activities in Career Commons, and make sure activities align with K-12 learning goals and requirements. This role requires quick learning, effective teamwork, and strong communication skills to collaborate with both internal teams and community members.



Essential functions 



  • Work closely with the Program Manager to facilitate grant work plans, complete project reports, coordinate initiative efforts and activities

  • Work with the entire education and emerging workforce team to prioritize and balance the needs of educators, employers, and volunteers, to provide excellent learning experiences for students

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of the project and its budget and how it fits into the portfolio of EO grants and projects

  • Train part-time WI Program Coordinators

  • Coordinate all school outreach, including scheduling, visit logistics, and invoicing

  • Serve as lead planner for summer programming in Career Commons

  • Communicate and collaborate in multiple ways with the program team, EO staff, community partners, and funders

  • Understand and abide by the Career Commons and EO standards of operation to support educational partners and students visiting Career Commons.

  • Collect data and testimonials from educators/students during visits to Career Commons to enhance student experiences and support reporting on program impact and outcome reporting

  • Serve as social media liaison for Career Commons, providing content for EO social media channels that aligns with outreach and engagement priorities

  • Maintain pertinent personal professional development for role

  • Have a clear understanding of all the partners in the Career Commons and understand the learning activities in their booth

  • Lead booth activities with students to facilitate learning and career exploration

  • Understand the EO student engagement strategy for all education and emerging workforce programing

Work environment


This position is based in the Abingdon, Virginia office.



Physical demands


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to stand and walk for the majority of the shift in the Career Commons. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.



Position type and expected hours of work


Employee should be able to work during EO core operating hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During the summer months, the employee should be able to work from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the summer camp programming.  The employee should be available for evening or weekend events a few times a year.



Certificates, licenses, registrations required



  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance

  • Reliable high-speed home internet



Required education and experience



  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited four-year college or university

  • Must demonstrate ability to learn quickly



Preferred education and experience



  • Experience working in a government, educational, nonprofit, or social service organization preferred

  • 2 - 5 years’ experience in a fast-paced environment preferred.
