A Day in the Life as a Commodity Supplemental Food Program and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program Manager:

As the Program Manager, you will be responsible for the daily planning, operations, coordination and management of the WIC (Women, Infants and Children) and Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)/Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), in accordance with Agency, local, state and Federal requirements. You will be responsible for the coordination of these program services with other agencies and community services serving this population, while providing nutrition education and assessment to all WIC and CSFP participants. Overseeing special projects and activities within the program as well as performing the usual duties of a manager including; interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training, supervising, evaluating and developing subordinate staff, and resolving employee problems and assigning tasks to maximize individual and team performance ensuring compliance with Agency policies and procedures. 

Your days will involve:  

  • Assisting in the planning, development, operations, and evaluation of all program services, as well as assisting with the development of all quality improvement activities and follow-up, including monitoring staff progress.  
  • Oversee the day-to-day oversight of the implementation of special projects, including breastfeeding promotion, immunization screening, Fit WIC, Lead Screening, Oral Health, and others as assigned. 
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of internal program operating policies and procedures in accordance with State and Federal requirements, while also ensuring the maintenance of client caseload as assigned by the State agency. 
  • Assist in the development, implementation and coordination of outreach and intake activities for the programs.  
  • In collaboration with the Nutrition Coordinator, oversee the nutrition education component of the programs, including provision of services by staff, the design and implementation of nutrition education materials and outreach plans, attending state meetings and implementation of new policies and procedures. 
  • Assist the Director of Community Health and Nutrition Services with the design, implementation and evaluation of the program nutrition objectives established annually for the State work plan, seeking input from staff in design of the objectives and scheduling staff meetings and assisting the Director in formulation of agenda and providing staff with minutes of meeting. 
  • Determines participant eligibility for WIC/CSFP/SFMNP program services in accordance with Agency, State and Federal guidelines and policies and procedures. 
  • Provides nutrition counseling to pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children participating in the WIC/CSFP programs in accordance with Federal and State guidelines and policies and procedures providing nutrition education to high-risk WIC participants according to state and federal policies and procedures; formulates and implements the nutrition care plans for individual participants of WIC and CSFP.

Requirements

Qualifications to Be a WIC & CSFP Program Manager:

To excel in this role, you’ll need:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Food and Nutrition Science, Home Economics or related field required. Master's Degree preferred.  
  • Experience: Three years of experience in Healthcare or Nutrition Administration, including financial and program management and personnel supervision and management, required. 
  • Skills: Knowledge of software applications and computer proficiency, as well as knowledge of applicable Federal, state and local regulations, policies and requirements. Able to develops and maintain knowledge and working understanding of StarLINC system and its applications and completes necessary computer procedures to maintain StarLINC and equipment as required by state. 
  • Characteristics: Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral form. Demonstrated ability to analyze and develop solutions to complex program problems. 
  • Technical: Successful completion of criminal record check and, if applicable, current eligibility for licensure as a Registered Dietician from the American Dietetic Association. 

Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required, as some travel within the community may be necessary.
