The clerk works with other WIC staff to provide timely and accurate WIC services. WIC offers low-income families nutrition education, screenings and referrals, breastfeeding support, and healthy foods. The clerk is responsible for obtaining documentation from WIC participants, explaining the requirements and benefits of the program, supplying clients with food benefits, scheduling appointments, and obtaining accurate anthropometric and lab data; as well as performing related clerical support activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Greet clients, parents, guardians, and visitors in a polite, prompt, and helpful manner creating a client and child-friendly environment.
Promotes breastfeeding as preferred infant feeding method.
Explain WIC services to clients.
Complete client screen and appointment intake.
Inform staff of client arrivals.
Schedule appointments aligning with WIC’s policies and procedures.
Complete KWIC Training Modules based on job duties
Create, verify, and update client information in KWIC.
Document all client interactions in KWIC.
Explain procedure for collecting measurements to clients.
Collect height, weight, and blood work data and document in KWIC.
Assist certifiers in nutrition education development, activities, and outreach.
Order and maintain equipment and supplies.
Assist with the issuing and security for electronic WIC cards.
Assists or conducts low-risk nutrition education appointments or classes from lessons approved by the dietitian.
Assist in tracking clients attending low-risk nutrition education appointments and classes.
Calibrate equipment per manufacture’s recommendations.
Distribute appointment and missed-appointment letters.
Adjust the flow sheet as needed during appointments.
Provide breastfeeding counseling, promotion, and support as appropriate.
Master a multi-line phone system and address phone calls/
Assist clients as necessary/
Arranges for transportation, when necessary, by calling taxis or family members.
Maintain a clean and orderly waiting area including reading material.
Maintain strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
Assist other staff members with their duties as workload dictates.
Complete annual civil rights training.
Complete quarterly time studies.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified Medical Assistant, preferred.
1-2 years’ experience in clinic setting.
CPR certification for Health Care Providers, required. May obtain within 90 days of employment.
Front Desk/Reception experience, preferred.
