Job Description - WIC Clerk

Position Summary


The first point of contact for WIC clients. Greet patients, obtain insurance and financial documents, schedule appointments, and perform a variety of other clerical, reception, and administrative tasks.

Essential Functions Statement(s)



  • Punctuality and being present are the first essential functions of the job.

  • Greet all patients and ensure that required paperwork for services is completed.

  • Receive appropriate client financial information to determine program eligibility and status.

  • Offer all applicants the opportunity to register to vote. Provide them with a Kansas Voter Registration Application or a State of Kansas Agency Declination Form.

  • Promote breastfeeding as the optimal infant feeding method and assist with pump rentals through the lactation center.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

  • Schedule patients and maintain the appointment schedule, and follow office scheduling policies.

  • Help contact and reschedule patients when schedules change.

  • Direct phone calls to the proper destination or take messages.

  • Answer or appropriately refer questions.

  • Receive and process any patient payments

  • Participate in quality improvement activities.

  • Perform other additional duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities



Education



High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. 


Experience



At least one year of experience in a general office environment or call center.


Computer Skills



To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, Electronic Medical Records software, and spreadsheet design software.



Certifications & Licenses


Current Class C Driver’s License required.



Work Environment


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk, or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.


 


Potentially exposed to infectious diseases through contact with patients in the medical setting. May be subject to visits in less-than-desirable environments and deal with some clients who may be hostile. Potential need to travel in adverse weather conditions.
