Job Description - Work Experience Education Teacher

Job Description:
The Work Experience Education Teacher is responsible for coordinating and implementing Da Vinci Schools’ Work Experience Education program, which provides students with real-world work experiences aligned with their career interests. The teacher ensures compliance with federal and state laws, provides career-readiness instruction, provides support as a liaison with industry partners, and monitors student progress in both paid and unpaid work placements. This role includes providing classroom instruction and maintaining records to support students’ career readiness, and provides support to the Real World Learning Program. 


Major Responsibilities and Essential Duties: 


Program Coordination & Compliance



  • Implement and oversee the Work Experience Education (WEE) program in accordance with DV Schools’ policies and California state regulations.

  • Approve student enrollment in WEE and ensure eligibility criteria are met.

  • Identify, approve, and monitor work sites to ensure appropriate learning opportunities and safe working conditions.

  • Identify, approve, and monitor work sites, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and labor laws to protect students.

  • Ensure students in Exploratory, General, and Vocational WEE programs meet the minimum work-hour and credit requirements per semester.

  • Ensure WEE inclusion in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for eligible students and collaborate with special education teams.


Student Instruction & Support



  • Conduct weekly related classroom instruction to teach workplace skills, professional ethics, and career planning.

  • Guide students in resume writing, interview techniques, workplace safety, and financial literacy to prepare them for the workforce.

  • Provide structured mentorship and career guidance, ensuring students complete training objectives aligned with their career goals.

  • Track student performance through worksite evaluations, attendance records, and academic progress reports.

  • Supporting increasing student participation in RWL opportunities by:



    • Promoting internships, career programming, and other events

    • Coordinating and executing communication strategies (e.g., flyers, announcements, presentations)

    • Helping track and follow up with interested students




Employer & Community Engagement



  • Establish partnerships with local businesses, industry leaders, and community organizations to create work placement opportunities.

  • Conduct a minimum of two on-site employer visits per semester to assess student progress and workplace conditions.

  • Provide employers with training and resources on student work expectations and compliance with WEE regulations.

  • Ensure equitable access to work experience opportunities for all students, fostering inclusion and diversity in career education.

  • Outreach to industry partners and handing off relationships to teachers

  • Scheduling engagements

  • Providing case management and follow-up

  • Maintaining systems for tracking student participation, outcomes, and employer feedback

  • Support with Teacher-Industry engagement  through:

  •  Support Coordination of multiple field trips by:

    • Collecting and organizing permission slips

    • Coordinating transportation

    • Onboarding students for trips

    • Chaperoning and on-site support




Administrative Duties



  • Maintain accurate student records, including work permits, employer agreements, training plans, and credit allocations.

  • Ensure compliance with grading criteria and credit eligibility, based on attendance, work performance, and classroom participation.

  • Collaborate with school leadership to promote WEE programs and align them with career technical education (CTE) initiatives.

  • Provide reports on program effectiveness and student outcomes to school administration.

  • Participate in professional development to stay informed on best practices in work-based learning and career readiness education.

  • Assistance with logistics for events and ongoing partner programs (e.g., calendaring, space reservations, tech coordination, prep materials)

  • Managing follow-ups and thank-yous to industry partners

  • Coordinating with communications teams to share outcomes and highlights


Qualifications & Skills:



  • Valid teaching credential.

  • Minimum of two years of occupational experience outside of education.

  • Knowledge of California WEE laws, labor regulations, and career education principles.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, including students, employers, parents, and school administration.

  • Valid Drivers’ License. Ability to transport students on school vans safely to field trips to various locations. 


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience in career technical education or workforce development.

  • Background in job coaching or internship coordination.

  • Familiarity with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and transition services for special education students.



  • Familiarity with Canvas or other digital learning platforms for classroom instruction.

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
