Key Areas of Accountability
- Maintain relationships among regulatory agencies, host railways, industry experts, partners, and professional associations
- Oversee the inspection, maintenance, cleaning, and repair of the rail equipment fleet in accordance with FRA regulations, OEM recommendations, and standards and procedures
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Develop and monitor the execution of maintenance, provisioning, and servicing work orders
- Conduct safety and performance audits
- Execute change initiatives
- Optimize asset utilization on overall equipment effectiveness, cycle times, and repair metrics
- Assist with management of maintenance and capital projects
- Support the staffing of the mechanical department including assisting with the selection, training, and performance management of mechanical personnel
- Execute training programs for team members
- Conduct performance reviews and assist in career development plans for team members
- Empower team members to achieve individual, department and corporate goals
- Work collaboratively with multiple departments to achieve company deliverables
- Participate in personal development company initiatives
- All other duties as assigned
Safety
- Comply with all Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), General Operating Instructions (GOI), host railway rules/requirements, and all other safety policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with incident reporting processes, ensuring the safety and security of team members, guests, and contractors are met in compliance with associated regulations
- Meet or exceed safety and security deliverables
- Assist with investigations of workplace accidents and implementing corrective action(s) required
- Support Environmental Health & Safety by ensuring required incident reporting processes are executed
- Ensure communication of and compliance with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules
- Maintain basic first aid level provided by the company
Operations
- Ensure mechanical operations are within compliance of the Systems Operating and Mechanical Plan
- Manage the execution of mechanical requirements with the support of the company Operations Centre
Mechanical
- Assist with the execution and continuous enhancement of a successful Maintenance Program
- Read, understand, and interpret schematics, manuals, and other instructions pertaining to the equipment
- Train for the use of equipment and hand tools
- Build and ensure accurate completion of work orders collaboratively with team members and contractors
- Adhere to car equipment maintenance standards, schedules, and programs; provide technical guidance to the Superintendent, Operations & Mechanical
- Meet or exceed mechanical and reliability deliverables
- Execute mechanical programs for all locations
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Post-secondary education in business management, an asset
- Valid U.S. Driver's License and clean driving record
- Qualified Maintenance Person (QMP) certification is an asset
- First Aid Certificate is an asset
- Knowledge of A.A.R. and government regulations regarding the maintenance of all railway equipment
- Understanding of appropriate internal and external regulations
Experience/Skills
- 7+ years of Railroad experience
- 3+ years of managing employees
- Qualification and/or proven knowledge in safe heavy equipment operations such as forklifts, cranes, etc.
- Qualification and/or proven knowledge in safe small hand tool handling such as grinders, drills, etc.
- Journeyman or Master Trade Qualification, an asset
- Expert in leadership and communication skills
- Experience in budgeting and material handling processes
- Strong coordination and organizational skills
- High attention to detail with a desire to maintain brand standards
- Competent with the MS Office Suite including applications
- Able to work cross-functionally
- Able to take personal accountability, be adaptable, and be a problem solver
- Knowledge of risk/loss control strategies, and prevention through maintenance processes
Work Environment
- Requires frequent travel
- Physical demands may require lifting to 80 lbs. on occasion
- Rail industrial site that requires walking and sitting throughout the day
- 24/7 operation that may require varied work schedules
- Indoor/outdoor working environment
Compensation
- The base salary offered for this role is $81,000 to $98,000 USD per annum and can vary based on job-related expertise, qualifications, experience and internal equity.
