This role blends hands\-on yard work, team leadership, and afternoon dispatch responsibilities to keep products moving safely, accurately, and efficiently. The ideal candidate is organized, safety\-focused, and able to coordinate people, equipment, and deliveries in a fast\-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Yard Leadership & Operations
Oversee the day\-to\-day workflow within the yard; assign and redirect employees as needed.
Step into any operational role, including receiving, pulling orders, and loading trucks.
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient yard layout to support safe and productive movement.
Ensure proper lumber handling, stacking, and storage to preserve quality and minimize damage.
Train yard staff on equipment operation, product handling, and company safety procedures.
Monitor overall yard organization and share improvement suggestions with management.
Support Fleet oversight by verifying forklift inspections, fuel entries, and equipment status.
Uphold all PPE and safety standards, promoting a safe environment for employees and drivers.
Assist the General Manager with performance monitoring, coaching, development, and discipline of yard associates.
Support inventory control through stock rotation, accuracy checks, and scheduled counts.
Guard Shack & Receiving Oversight
Ensure accurate entry of stock receipts, customer returns, and credits through guard shack processes.
Verify receiving documentation is completed accurately and routed appropriately.
Afternoon Dispatch (2:00 p.m. â 5:00 p.m.)
Coordinate end\-of\-day dispatch duties, including routing, scheduling, and driver communication.
Verify paperwork, bills of lading, and delivery documentation before trucks depart.
Adjust routes or priorities based on operational needs, store requests, or delivery changes.
Maintain strong communication with drivers, yard staff, and store teams to support smooth delivery operations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
Experience in a lumber yard, distribution center, or building materials environment preferred.
Previous leadership, dispatching, or foreman experience is a plus.
Ability to work outdoors and perform physical tasks in a fast\-paced environment.
Strong communication and coordination skills; comfortable managing multiple priorities.
Basic computer proficiency, including routing tools and inventory systems.
Certifications such as forklift, hoisting, or CDL are helpful but not required (training provided for the right candidate).
