Yard Operator

The Yard Operator performs a variety of duties and is responsible for operating; heavy equipment, light equipment to load, unload and process scrap materials. In addition, the equipment operator is responsible for buying, grading, sorting, and processing scrap metals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Load or unload scrap metal materials as needed
• Transport and load materials from one place to another
• Perform pre- and post-operation inspections on equipment and vehicles
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and vehicles
• Wash, lubricate and fuel equipment and vehicles
• Dismantle/disassemble or take apart components
• Utilize software for purchasing scrap metals 
• Sorting, grading, and processing scrap metals
• Ensure a clean and orderly workplace; clean and prepare site by removing debris and possible hazards
• Maintain various records and/or logs
• Exercise excellent customer service while communicating and assisting our customers

Previous Education and Experience:

• Previous experience with heavy equipment 
• Experience using hand tools and power tools
• Mechanically inclined
• Knowledge and experience of the scrap metal recycling industry, a plus
