Job Description - YMCA Child Development Cook - York

The Arthur J. Glatfelter YMCA in York is seeking a dependable and caring Child Care Cook to prepare healthy, nutritious meals for children in our program. In this role, you will plan, prepare, and serve meals and snacks that meet USDA/CACFP guidelines, helping ensure children receive balanced nutrition to support their growth and development.


We're looking for someone who enjoys working in a child-centered environment, takes pride in food preparation, and understands the important role healthy meals play in a child's day.


Schedule




  • Monday–Friday




  • 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM




This position is ideal for someone who is organized, reliable, and passionate about supporting children's well-being through nutritious meals while being part of a welcoming YMCA team.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving center meals, ordering food for all child care sites, distribution of food, grocery shopping and maintenance of a healthy, safe, and clean kitchen. This position requires physical lifting and handling of food. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Comply with all Department of Human Services (DHS) regulations

  2. Comply with all Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations

  3. Comply with all Health Department inspection regulations/policies

  4. Complete/assist with components of the CACFP requirements which includes the following:



  • Maintain daily food production and menu forms

  • Create and distribute classroom meal forms

  • Manage meal count forms

  • Tally and submit CACFP meal forms for reimbursement



  1. Prepare meals (breakfast, lunch, snack) according to planned menus

  2. Serve all meals to classrooms

  3. Serve and prepare hot breakfast minimum of two times per a week

  4. Assist with ratio in classrooms as needed

  5. Clean kitchen and equipment/appliances daily

  6. Maintain clean, healthy and sanitary practices in keeping with the Department of Health

  7. Practice proper hand washing procedures

  8. Order food for all child care sites/centers

  9. Purchase other food intems at the grocery store or food bank

  10. Distribute food accordingly for various sites/locations; arrange for off-site delivery

  11. Know fire and emergency procedures; Be prepared in emergency situation

  12. Know and follow established center policies and procedures

  13. Obtain required training hours as per DHS, Department of Health and YMCA regulations

  14. Maintain positive attitude toward children, their families and staff

  15. Maintain confidentiality and treat all families with dignity and respect

  16. Provide and prepare meals for other YMCA functions within the meal service policy

  17. Follow YMCA of the Roses attendance policies outlined in the Childcare Employee Handbook.

  18. Attend staff meetings.

  19. All other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. A High School Diploma or general educational development certificate (GED).

  2. A minimum of 1 year food preparation experience.

  3. Obtain the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Certificate and maintain current status.


And,



  1. Obtain a proper clearances, a negative Mantoux TB test and a physical

  2. Must have or obtain CPR and AED certification

  • Ability to stand for long spans of time, reach above and below, carry up to 15 pounds without assistance, perform functions of food preparation, and withstand the elements of a kitchen





  1. Obtain a State Police, Child Abuse, NSOR and FBI certifications in addition to a negative Mantoux TB test and a physical.
