Job Description - York YMCA - School Aged Childcare Van Driver
The YMCA is seeking a responsible and friendly Van Driver to transport school-aged children participating in our before- and after-school programs. The ideal candidate has a clean driving record, strong safety awareness, and a positive attitude with children and families.
Schedule
7:00 AM – 9:00 AM
2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Fridays: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Occasional Wednesdays: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
This part-time role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with youth and wants to contribute to a safe, supportive YMCA community.

The Van Driver provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Drives van safely along a designated route, picking up and discharging students in accordance with established time schedules; observe legal and defensive driving practices; assure compliance with applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes and regulations.
Maintain order and discipline among passengers on the van and while waiting at van stops in accordance with Association policies; escort children to proper location.
Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out van each day.
Promotes safety at all times and ensures van rules are announced and followed, and keeps first aid supplies fully stocked.
Report all vehicle maintenance in a timely fashion.
Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
Remain up to date on and follow emergency procedures and organization policies. Administer first aid as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a valid Pennsylvania license and present/maintain a satisfactory driving record
At least one-year work experience as a van or bus driver preferred
Obtain a State Police, Child Abuse, NSOR and/or FBI clearance in compliance with Child Protective Services Law and YMCA policy
Must have or obtain Pediatric First Aide/CPR and AED certification
Must qualify as an Assistant Group Supervisor per Department of Health regulations
A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education or the human services field.
A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training described in section 3270.31(c) (relating to age and training).
A high school or general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education or the human services field and 1 year of documented experience with children.
A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum described in section 3270.31 (c).
A high school diploma or general educational development certificate and 2 years documented experience with children.

Ability to hear voices, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds to communicate, answer phones and respond to alarms/emergencies
Ability to drive a van, read and interpret maps and road signs
Obtain a State Police, Child Abuse, NSOR and/or FBI clearance in compliance with Child Protective Services Law and YMCA policy.
