Title: Youth and Family Coordinator


Department: Youth and Family Services
Reports To: Youth Programs Supervisor
Employment Type: Full-time (Evenings and weekends may be required)(40 hours per week)
Location: MEIRS – Lewiston/Auburn, Maine


Rate: $20 per hour


Position Summary


The Youth and Family Coordinator plays a key role in designing, facilitating, and coordinating programming that supports the growth, wellness, and success of immigrant and refugee youth and their families. This position fosters intergenerational connection, strengthens access to culturally responsive resources, and enhances community voice. In addition to leading youth and family engagement activities, the coordinator works in close collaboration with the MEIRS medical team to support Refugee Health Promotion (RHP) program activities and submit monthly reports.


The coordinator also participates in school and justice-related meetings (e.g., school intervention teams, juvenile community corrections officer (JCCO) meetings), and helps connect youth and families with mentors, academic supports, and community-based services. Use of Salesforce, ClientTrack, or other tracking software is required to document services and outcomes.


Key Responsibilities



  1. Youth Engagement and Programming



  • Design and lead youth programs focused on leadership development, emotional regulation, cultural identity, civic engagement, and academic achievement.

  • Coordinate after-school and weekend activities, workshops, and field trips in collaboration with community partners and MEIRS staff.

  • Serve as a trusted mentor and adult ally to youth participants, ensuring a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach to youth support.



  1. Family Engagement & Support



  • Plan and deliver culturally relevant workshops for caregivers on parenting in a new culture, navigating U.S. systems, youth development, and mental health awareness.

  • Offer individualized family support, including housing referrals, resource navigation, and crisis intervention.

  • Support positive communication between parents and youth, encouraging mutual understanding and shared goals.



  1. School, JCCO, and Mentor Support



  • Attend and participate in school-based meetings (e.g., IEPs, behavior intervention plans, truancy or attendance review boards).

  • Collaborate with Juvenile Community Corrections Officers (JCCOs) to support youth involved in or at risk of involvement with the juvenile justice system.

  • Assist in connecting youth and families to appropriate mentors, academic tutors, and community advocates to build support networks and improve outcomes.



  1. Refugee Health Promotion (RHP) Coordination



  • Work with the MEIRS medical team to coordinate health promotion activities including health education, wellness workshops, and preventive care access.

  • Help families navigate medical appointments, insurance, and follow-up care.

  • Support the preparation and submission of monthly RHP activity reports in collaboration with program supervisor and medical team



  1. Data Entry, Tracking & Reporting



  • Utilize Salesforce, ClientTrack, or similar case management software to maintain up-to-date documentation of services, attendance, referrals, and client outcomes.

  • Ensure all records are entered in a timely and accurate manner to meet agency and funder requirements.

  • Contribute to program evaluation, success story collection, and grant reporting as needed.


 


Preferred Qualifications



  • High school diploma required, Associate/Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Public Health, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience working with immigrant/refugee youth and families.

  • Familiarity with trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices.

  • Demonstrated experience in school systems, health navigation, or juvenile justice advocacy is a plus.

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills strongly preferred (e.g., Somali, French, Arabic, Swahili etc).

  • Familiarity  in Salesforce, ClientTrack, or other case management/data tracking software.
