Schedule: Schedule listed below may vary to meet the various needs of the program. Must work at least two PM shifts per week.

Tuesday – Saturday: AM Shift- 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

                                  PM Shift-1:30 – 10 p.m.

Program

Casa Nuestra is an emergency shelter for youth with justice or child welfare contact, or at risk of homelessness who need temporary housing to avoid detention while waiting for more permanent housing, placement, or reunification with parent or guardian after a crisis event. Casa Nuestra is available to youth who have either been arrested and/or referred to San Diego County’s Alternatives to Detention (ATD) or the Community Assessment Team or Juvenile Diversion (CAT/JD), as well as homeless youth referred by community entities (e.g., churches, schools) or youth on Probation (Ward).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator and Program Director, the Youth and Family Development Associate (YFDA) is responsible for providing trauma-informed services to youth who reside at Casa Nuestra as part of SBCS’s Alternatives to Detention (ATD) or Community Assessment Team (CAT) programs. The YFDA’s primary responsibility is to provide case management for each youth residing at Casa Nuestra. Services will be in keeping with the agency goals, objectives, mission, and style provided within a team framework. YFDA is responsible for working with the team in developing team goals and objectives and in meeting those goals and objectives, including but not limited to:

• Complete comprehensive family-based assessments for identified youth, including the Family Wellbeing Assessment and the San Diego Risk & Resiliency Checkup Tool.
• Develop strength-based, individualized family treatment plans including goals and objectives.
• Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and therapeutic environment through interactions with youth and staff.
• Onboard youth including completing all intake forms, conducting family-based assessments, orienting youth to Casa Nuestra’s rules, expectations, staff, and other residents.
• Provide trauma-informed and family-centered case management services, and other services relative to program goals and objectives agreed upon with the client based on the assessment to help youth thrive in the community and avoid future or continued involvement in the juvenile justice system.
• Conduct home visits, school visits, and field visits, in addition to office visits to best meet the needs of the youth and family.
• Provide case management for non-Casa Nuestra youth as needed when assigned cases. 
• Collect data, input case notes, and maintain case records and client files in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database as required by SBCS and its funding sources.
• Ensure all CCL regulations/requirements are upheld.
• Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings with other team members and other community partners.
• Appropriate coordination of contacts with other public and private organizations and individuals (e.g. Probation, law enforcement, juvenile court, etc.) as necessary to effectively serve clients. (e.g. progress reports to referral sources, client referrals to other agencies).
• Conduct regular inspections of youth resident rooms to ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance with facility policies and procedures.
• Provide support and crisis intervention through trauma-informed care.
• Complete monthly statistical reports of services provided as required by SBCS.
• Facilitate group meetings Positive Youth Development curriculums.
• Support and assist youth with their basic shelter needs as they arise (ex. questions, concerns, hygiene supplies, cleaning supplies, bedding, food and more)
• Transport clients in a safe and secure manner in matters related to service delivery.
• Participation in special projects and activities related to agency’s goals and objectives.
• Participation in agency special events, such as fundraisers, annual meetings, and open houses.
• Participation and assistance in implementing program components.
• Attend all agency required meetings and trainings.
• As other duties assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree required in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, social work, or closely related field.  
• Minimum 1-2 years of experience in child, youth, and family services field. Experience should preferably have been in a community based or neighborhood service organization. 
• Experience in the areas of individual, group, and family counseling, school-based services, outreach, community education and development, advocacy, and case management. Ability to work with a diverse cultural population.  
• Maintains confidentiality and privacy standards of program participants in accordance with agency and center policies, and applicable regulations and laws, including HIPAA.
• Must possess good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, including Outlook, Word, and Excel to develop, update, maintain and manage spreadsheets and data reports.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
• Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.

Conditions of Employment

• Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), Probation Clearances, Community Care Licensing Clearances, Child Abuse Central Index Check (CACI), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, physical exam, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, Immunizations (TDAP, MMR, Influenza) and such additional clearances as may be required under the program. 
• Candidates/employees who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, (including THC and CBD), in accordance with the County of San Diego's drug and alcohol policy and the federal Controlled Substances Act.
• Candidate is required to have reliable transportation; therefore, the candidate must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver’s license and valid auto insurance policy.

Physical demands:

• Mentally and emotionally: Ability to work under deadlines, various projects and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift. 
• Moves throughout the building. 
• Moves, raises, or lowers (includes upward pulling) an object or equipment up to 50 lbs. 
• Transports an object, from 20 to 50 lbs. across the facility, for various needs.
• Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force. 
• Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking) 
• Ascending or descending stairs and ladders when applicable. Body agility is emphasized. 
• Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when ascending, descending, traversing.  
• Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. 
• Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with objects or office machinery. 
• Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas. Communicating is important for those activities in which workers must impart information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, or quickly.
