Job Description - Youth and Family Studio Assistant

Position:
Youth and Family Studio Assistant

                               Department: Public Programs 


Reports to:
Manager of Family and Community Programs    Schedule: Full-time, Non-Exempt, 30 hrs/week 


Pay Range:
$19.65/hr
-$23/hr
 


 


The Youth & Family Studio Assistant contributes to the development and implementation of The Contemporary Austin’s plentiful artmaking, education, and community outreach programs offered primarily to youth and families across both Contemporary Austin locations (Jones Center and Laguna Gloria). Working closely with the Senior Manager of Family and Community Programs, this team member develops lesson plans and facilitates programs that teach contemporary art concepts and techniques, utilizing
appropriate educational strategies and best practices. This position also provides administrative support related to budget, materials, and online ticketing. In addition, this position contributes to the production of art-making kits, art material prep and organization, and other items and resources used during Family & Community Programs, including maps, guides, and temporary art installations.    
  


 


Responsibilities: 



  • Provides administrative support in the form of PO’s, ordering materials, and maintaining the event ticketing process 



  • Facilitates exhibition-inspired lessons and hands-on activities for families attending Second Saturdays are for Families, the museum’s flagship family program, at Laguna Gloria 



  • Facilitates exhibition-inspired lessons and hands-on activities for families attending our programming at the Jones Center 



  • Organizes and maintains a large inventory of art supplies at 2 museum locations and prepares materials for upcoming art-making programs 



  • Provide general support to all Family and Community programs including community outreach, family programs and large events and fundraisers both on-site and off-site 



  • Maintains positive and professional relationships with community partners and all other collaborators 



  • Provide general information to the public and assisting in the management of volunteers during programs, assigning duties as necessary 


 


Qualifications: 



  • Experience in education, studio art or related field, with an emphasis on youth arts education and/or social and emotional learning 



  • Comfortable with public speaking and giving instruction to large groups 



  • Experience with wide range of art techniques and mediums 



  • Knowledge and familiarity with wide range of art supplies 



  • Some evening and weekend availability 



  • Bilingual a plus 



  • Must have reliable transportation 



  • Weekend and evening availability as needed for events 



  • Organized and detail-oriented 



  • Self-starter and proactive worker; positive attitude
