This job description has been approved by the Tribal Administrator for staff clarity to define the duties, reporting relationships, and expectations of the Youth Associate. Personnel management functions such as hiring, discipline, grievances, and benefits administration remain under the authority of the Human Resources Department.
Position Overview
The Youth Associate will be responsible for understanding and promoting cultural activities in accordance with policies and procedures related to allowable culturally relevant workshops and traditional healing activities. This role involves assisting with logistical support for cultural and traditional healing programs, including interdepartmental services, cultural workshops, vendor contracts, and special projects. Additionally, the Youth Associate will help maintain and update partner and client relationships. The Youth Associate will be supervised by the Culture Director.
Key Responsibilities and Qualifications
Core Functional Duties
Work as part of a team: the team includes co-workers, partner agencies and program participants.
Assist the facilitation of cultural traditional healing activities and workshops.
Ensure appropriate support staff are scheduled for cultural and traditional healing activities and workshops.
Provide guidance and instruction for traditional skills, i.e., beadwork, skin sewing, community potluck, etc.
Promote healthy, substance-free community activities (such as cultural activities, educational/outreach programs, and other programs).
Collect data, including photos for reporting.
File documents.
Assist in wellness program activities, as needed.
Assist with funding entity documentation and reporting requirements.
Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects and adapt to high pressure situations.

Must be able to foster new and existing relationships with business partners.
Must be able to maintain regular and open communications with coworkers and partner organizations.

Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must be sensitive to community cultural values.
Must be able to work independently with some direct supervision/guidance.
Must be familiar with Microsoft Office 365 programs, including Excel, Word, and SharePoint. Must be able to perform routine and non-routine department related tasks with supervision.
Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
Must have working knowledge of Microsoft 365 programs.
Must be able to work independently.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions.
Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check. Experience working with Tribal governments or Alaska Native Organizations preferred.
