Youth Peer Support Specialist

Location: Ste Genevieve, MO (Ste. Genevieve County)

Full - Time, Non - Exempt:

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00am - 4:30pm, Some evenings maybe required dependent upon agency or client need.

Pay: $16.42 - $18.82/hour, depending upon experience.

Job Summary:

Responsible for performing a wide range of tasks in emergency, outpatient or inpatient settings that are designed to assist clients aged 13-25 in recovery and living in the community by sharing his/her own personal experience in dealing with mental illness or substance use recovery.

Job Duties:

1. Providing one-on-one support, coaching, and advocacy


2. Sharing stories of hope to promote resilience and support recovery


3. Empowering and supporting youth to meet their needs


4. Working with youth to identify their goals and next steps.


5. Maintain positive attitude toward agency and clientele.


6. Assisting young people as they navigate traditional systems.


7. Promoting the active participation of young people in conversations with system partners and other professionals


8. Encouraging young people to work toward systems change


9. Facilitating groups and coordinating community events for young people


10. Promoting services that foster the full integration of youth in their communities


11. Engaging in decision-making and policy-planning discussions at the local, state, and national level


12. Share their personal experience with mental illness/co-occurring substance use and their own personal recovery experience while serving as a role model


13. Help identify client's individual warning signs and help develop ways to prevent relapse to avoid hospitalizations.


14. Assist clients in developing support systems and developing self-care skills to promote recovery (i.e., self-advocacy, coping, social, etc.)


15. Participate as a member of the clinical team and provide client's point of view at team meetings, treatment planning meetings, and psychiatric visits.


16. Responsible for transporting clients in agency and/or personal vehicle as deemed necessary and appropriate to meet program requirements.


17. Document according to clinical policies and procedures, DMH, CARF, and any other federal or state program per agency standards.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma/GED/HSE


• Must self identify as a former or current consumer of mental health, behavioral health, substance use, or co - occurring disorder services, and must hold, or be eligible to obtain within 75 days of starting, a valid certified Peer Specialist Credential from the Missouri Credentialing Board.


• Be eligible to obtain Youth Peer Specialist credential.


• Must hold Valid Driver's License (Class E for Missouri or Class D for IL Residents - Obtain on start date) and current continuous auto insurance.
