Job Description - Youth Sports Coach


POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Sports Coach is responsible for providing safe and appropriately designed programs in an environment that supports and nurtures the Holyoke YMCA’s mission and character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for providing leadership and guidance to members within their assigned sport program.
  2. Responsible for providing safe, appropriate and effective programs/league play.
  3. Responsible for starting and ending program/class on time, as well as being available 10 minutes before and after to answer questions, etc.
  4. Responsible for ensuring facility and equipment is safe for programming and reports any issues/concerns to supervisor.
  5. Responsible for getting to know members, providing motivation and encouragement, as well as being aware of their abilities.
  6. Responsible for knowing and practicing established emergency procedures in the event of an accident and/or incident.
  7. Responsible for helping to promote the YMCA and all it has to offer to members, as well as those not yet members.

  • Program/Project Management: Ensures program or project goals are met and intended impact occurs.
  • Developing Self & Others: Develops self and supports others (e.g., staff, volunteers, members, program participants), both formally and informally, to achieve their highest potential.
  • Emotional Maturity: Demonstrates ability to understand and manage emotions effectively in all situations. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One to two years related experience preferred. 
  • Recommended within 30 days of hire include CPR; First Aid; AED
  • YMCA Leader Certification within 6 months
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
