Youth Sports Official

Job Overview:

The youth official position is a part-time position with the primary responsibility of officiating various youth sport games (soccer, basketball, flag football, floor hockey, & volleyball). Games are played indoors at local 308 schools or outdoor on Park District fields. Under the supervision of the site supervisor, youth officials are responsible for the safe control, by objectively and competently ruling the game. This includes controlling the spectators, coaches, and participants of the programs. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Officiate the assigned sport in a proper manner
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and positively with staff, participants and spectators
- Demonstrate the ability to control all aspects of the program in which you are officiating
- Ability to positively deal with conflicts and issues that may arise
- Assist in maintaining field and gymnasium care and upkeep
- Ensure program areas and participants are safe
- Attend staff trainings and meetings
- Exhibit responsibility and diligence when following closing procedures of program areas
- Perform other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications:
- Applicants must be at least 16 years of age

- Have a knowledge of sports and the specific rules and regulations that pertain to each sport in which you will be officiating

- Excellent decision-making and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently or as a part of a team
- Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid preferred or willing to obtain certifications
- Understand and exhibit behavior consistent with the stated values of the park district

Hours:
Part-time 5-15 hours per week

Rate:
$15-$17/hour
