Job Title: Swim Coach – Youth Swim Team
Status: Part Time Non-Exempt
Department: Healthy Living - Aquatics
Reports to: Director of Healthy Living

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Swim Coach plays a vital role in advancing the YMCA’s mission of strengthening community by 
connecting people to their potential, purpose, and one another. This position leads practices, prepares 
swimmers for competitions, and fosters a team environment that emphasizes personal growth, safety, and 
sportsmanship. By providing high-quality coaching and support, the Swim Coach helps youth athletes of all 
levels build skills and confidence in and out of the water. Guided by the YMCA’s core values—Caring, 
Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility—we foster a culture that is Welcoming, Genuine, Hopeful, 
Nurturing, and Determined.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead and supervise practices for all levels of the youth swim team with enthusiasm and professionalism.
• Design and implement workouts tailored to swimmers’ developmental needs and goals.
• Prepare swimmers for competitions, ensuring understanding of meet rules, etiquette, and YMCA 
representation.
• Collaborate with the Aquatics Director in planning team schedules, workouts, and meet participation.
• Co-organize and supervise swim meets; ensure safety, fairness, and a positive experience.
• Maintain effective communication with swimmers, parents, and YMCA staff about schedules, progress, 
and team expectations.
• Foster a positive, supportive team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, belonging, and 
achievement.
• Assist with non-competitive aquatics programming as assigned.
• Ensure safety standards are consistently upheld during practices and competitions.
• Model YMCA core values and use the Y-Voice: Welcoming, Hopeful, Determined, Genuine, and 
Nurturing.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the YMCA’s mission and strategic goals.

Job Title: Swim Coach – Youth Swim Team
The Y: We strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Previous coaching experience preferred; competitive swimming background strongly encouraged.
• CPR/AED, First Aid, and Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification (or willingness to obtain upon 
hire).
• YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving Certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 
months).
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to demonstrate and teach swim techniques according to YMCA standards.
• Understands that the YMCA is a public accommodation committed to compliance with the Americans 
with Disabilities Act (ADA).
REQUIRED TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
(or willingness to complete within designated timeframe upon hire)
• YMCA-approved Bloodborne Pathogens Training
• Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification
• Emergency Procedures Training
• CPR and First Aid Certification
• YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving Certification
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Ability to demonstrate swim strokes and provide feedback in and out of the water.
• Ability to lift equipment and assist swimmers as needed (up to 25 lbs).
• Frequent standing, bending, and active movement on the pool deck.
• Exposure to humid, wet, and noisy conditions typical of pool environments.
• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the 
essential functions.
