Position Title: Bookseller / Shiftleader                                                                     

Overview: Greenlight booksellers are the frontline of our company mission to “create welcoming spaces for discovery, conversation, and connection around books.” The bookseller position at Greenlight Bookstore is primarily a customer-facing role, focused on providing customer service and recommendations as well as accomplishing merchandising and inventory tasks daily. In addition to the responsibilities of the bookseller position, Shiftleaders act as point person for staff, customers, and visitors on their shift, as well as troubleshoot sales floor issues that may arise. Shiftleaders hold keys to their specific store location and are responsible for preparing register drawers during opening shifts, as well as counting out drawers and sending end-of-day reports during closing shifts. Shiftleaders direct tasks and work flow as part of their job duties, but are not part of the management team and do not conduct performance management or progressive discipline. Like all roles, responsibilities of this position are subject to change, and any changes will be communicated to staff.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Bookseller duties including in-store and phone customer service, recommendations and merchandising, ringing up sales, and inventory projects
• Opening and closing the store, including counting registers and safe and posting end of day reports
• Maintaining and delegating daily task list in collaboration with store manager
• Acting as point person for the shift and troubleshooting any issues that arise
• De-escalation and documentation of difficult customer interactions 
• Assisting in new bookseller training

Qualifications:

• Prior experience as a Greenlight Bookseller, and/or previous retail shiftleader/ keyholder experience
• Minimum 3 days per week availability, including opening and closing
• Ability to lift at least 30 pounds
• Comfortable interacting with children, and with general computer technology and website navigation
• Ability to remain calm and use good judgement in unpredictable situations
• Comfort and capability in a public-facing, customer service-oriented retail position
• Interest in learning about the world of book, bookselling, and bookstores

Our ideal candidate is comfortable engaging everyone that comes through our doors in conversations about books and merchandise. Candidates must understand that this position is physically demanding and requires being on your feet for long periods of the day and lifting boxes. 

Direct Supervisor: Bookstore ManagerSchedule: Shiftleaders may be scheduled for 3-5 dedicated shifts per week, depending on availability and business needs.

Compensation & Benefits:Hourly rate for shiftleaders starts at $18.00/hour. This is a union position (RWDSU Local 1102.).
