Job Description - Coordinator of the Learning and Simulation Center

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Coordinator of the Learning and Simulation Center Skills is responsible for developing and demonstrating expertise essential for the integration and operation of educational technology tools in the learning laboratory where students engage in the practice of nursing skills and theory applications.  This position will assist the Assistant Dean for Clinical Skills and Simulation Education in the implementation of clinical lab and simulations for undergraduate and graduate nursing students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructs and facilitates student learning primarily related to health assessments, fundamentals, and medical-surgical nursing, and serving as a resource to faculty implementing simulation in clinical areas.

Develops instructional materials for the lab and simulation experiences in collaboration with course faculty.

Demonstrates basic skills in operating the educational technology tools. Availability and motivation for formal initial training and on-going self-directed learning will be required.

Ensures efficient operations of the learning laboratory by maintaining supplies and equipment as needed, reports missing or damaged equipment, recommending equipment for incorporation into a state-of-the-art laboratory. Participates in on-going evaluation of lab equipment and supplies.

Develops expertise in the use of educational technology tools by actively engaging in professional development and training opportunities ongoing to ensure progressive use of emerging technologies within the state-of-the art learning laboratory.

Supervises/demonstrates skills during open lab sessions; participates as an evaluator in skills verification. Works collaboratively with course faculty.

Facilitates the implementation of educational technology, on-line testing, task training devices, and computer assisted instructional tools in the skills laboratory for teaching, learning, practice and assessment of clinical competencies.

Provides individual and or group instruction, remediation and tutoring for undergraduate nursing students with lab clinical skills.

Orients students to the purpose and expectations of the learning lab and practice experiences, using educational technology to promote accountability, competency development and critical thinking skills.

Develops lab schedules, coordinating all undergraduate levels, as well as graduate and other health related schools (PT, Speech and Language).

Participates in all Simulation activities. Facilitates both pre-brief and debrief sessions.

Coordinates CPR renewals for full-time and part- time faculty and staff.

Completes other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

Pennsylvania Registered Nursing License.

Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution with 3 to 5 years recent clinical experience.

Knowledge of nursing skills and technologies related to patient care and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.

Current knowledge of simulation procedures and the ability to communicate effectively and work with individuals and groups of faculty and students.

Sensitivity to the need of each individual to be treated with dignity and respect as it relates to diversity in general and the Mission of the University specifically.

Preferred qualifications:

CHSE certification preferred.
