The Guest Services Associate provides a high-quality and engaging experience for all museum guests, gift shop customers, and teammates. The Guest Services Associate accurately accounts for all museum admissions, guest service desk membership payments, and gift shop sales.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform the daily operations of the guest service desk with a focus on (i) customer service, organization, and efficiency, ensuring guests are attended to appropriately, and (ii) accuracy of recording member visitation data and guest admission payment.
- Adhere to admission and cash handling procedures and balances drawer before and after every shift.
- Greet and orient visitors and self-guided groups.
- Participate in regular training as directed to maintain a working knowledge of the exhibitions and programs offered by the Hunter Museum.
- Balance the welfare of the museum with the expectations of museum visitors; communicate with various visitors with diverse interests and abilities to ensure a positive museum experience; and resolve visitor concerns and complaints.
- Encourage and record guest feedback through surveys.
- Work with the facility department to ensure public spaces (stairs, lobby, coat room, gift shop, restrooms, and entry doors) are neat, clean, and inviting.
- Assist, as directed, in the everyday operations of the museum gift shop, including merchandising, pricing, stocking, receiving, ordering, and managing store display and consignment products, with a focus on customer service.
- Assist with special store promotions including trunk shows, book signings, holiday promotions, and special group promotions.
- Participate in all staff meetings and walk-throughs and provide administrative support as needed.
Key Qualifications
- College degree preferred with coursework in business, marketing, sales, and/or art history preferred.
- Related customer service work experience, education, and/or training.
- Expected to complete 1st Aid, CPR, and AED training.
- Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access.
- Knowledge of guest service principles, practices, and procedures
- Ability to implement effective initiatives and strategies to ensure consistent excellent guest services in all areas of the Hunter Museum.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
- Retail sales experience preferred.
- Knowledge of POS cash register procedures
- Strong technological skills, including familiarity with database systems and phone applications.
Part-time, hourly; must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holiday hours as needed.
