Summary The Communications Manager is responsible for the successful leadership of IHS Communications and Public Relations planning and activities. Serves as liaison between IHS and the Media. Seeks new media opportunities and partnerships in order to gain new donors and/or to strengthen existing donor and partner relationships. Essential Functions
  1. Develop and execute annual communications plan to include traditional and digital
media opportunities.
  1. Actively seek media opportunities (interviews, community presentations, webinars, etc..)
for Executive Director, Philanthropy & Community Relations Director, program staff or self.
  1. Manage press releases and other communications to bring recognition to corporate and foundation partner and donor efforts.
  2. Manage development of multi-media marketing initiatives such as PSAs, organizational overviews, success stories, virtual tours, etc..
  3. Oversee general public relations and positioning, identifying opportunities to elevate the IHS brand through media, advertising, or partnerships.
  4. Work closely with Director of Philanthropy & Community Relations and Executive Director to identify stories to proactively push to media.
  5. Help drive legislative affairs and advocacy efforts by creating content in support of IHS mission and legislative initiatives.
Other Duties
  1. Regularly attend and participate in team meetings, all staff meetings and strategy sessions.
  2. Support teammates as needed with special projects such as large volunteer opportunities, holiday card mailings, donor appreciation calls, and more.
  3. Occasional TV or radio appearances.
  4. Occasional Neighborhood Board or other Public Relations Event participation.
  5. Perform other duties and accept responsibilities as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility May have direct and indirect supervisory responsibility to help execute the initiative listed above as well as the responsibility for managing relationships with external consultants and/or third party vendors contracted to support marketing work. May also have supervisory responsibility for community volunteers or interns who are providing assistance with special projects or assignments that further and/or support the department and/or the mission of IHS. The responsibility when assigned, includes ensuring volunteers are working safely, are monitored and supported to have a positive volunteer experience.

Required Education & Experience
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field
  2. A minimum of 5 years of work experience in a Public Relations, Marketing or Communications role
  3. Demonstrated experience with brand strategy and communication with the general public, businesses and donors
Preferred Education & Experience
  1. Knowledge of philanthropic messaging/donor communications strategies
  2. 3+ years of Marketing experience in a Nonprofit setting
  3. Understanding of Hawaii media landscape
