Job Profile Summary


The Workforce Development Specialist is responsible for supporting workforce development initiatives across the UMass Memorial Health (UMMH) system. The specialist conducts analysis, planning, content development, communications, and program implementation related to workforce development. In this role, the specialist works directly with stakeholders across the organization and within the community, building partnerships and maintaining regular interactions with frontline caregivers, managers, educators and leaders to support workforce development and career advancement.


Job Description


I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Leads and executes the design, management, communications, budget, and other administrative functions for systemwide workforce development courses and programs, including new offerings such as Introduction to Healthcare Careers and the Caregiver Ambassador Program. Applies understanding of the overall program objectives to create implementation strategies, program materials, marketing tactics and to evaluate their success. Identifies, develops and leads new initiatives that contribute to the execution of the systemwide workforce development plan.
2. In collaboration with the workforce development team and internal/external experts, assists in developing and prototyping a career coaching model for frontline caregivers engaged in workforce development programs. Collects and integrates caregiver experiences to inform the design process so that the model addresses barriers to advancement, leverages employee benefits and provides customized plans. Delivers individual support and guidance to caregivers engaged in workforce development programs.
3. Manages program activities and communications with internal stakeholders such as talent acquisition and nursing professional development and external stakeholders such as schools and community-based organizations. Serves as a point of contact in managing program details including collecting, organizing, analyzing and reporting participant data related to registration, applications, enrollments and hiring. Maintains centralized team and program communications and materials.
4. Supports the administration and work of the systemwide Workforce Development Coordinating Committee by providing information, data and assistance with implementing their ideas. Coordinates with corporate functions, leaders, unions and outside vendors as needed. May include assisting with meeting design and documentation, stakeholder surveys and focus groups, reporting on team activities and dissemination of program results.

2. Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement, continuous improvement, and lean principles in daily operations.
4. Complies with all health and safety and regulatory requirements.
5. II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Associate’s Degree.


Preferred:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, public health, community development, communications or equivalent.


Experience/Skill:
Required:
1. Minimum two (2) years of program/project management experience.
2. Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow through from planning to implementation of program logistics.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated capacity to proactively communicate with stakeholders of all kinds.
4. Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and documentation skills.
5. Ability to use standard computer software packages and applications.
6. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.
7. Proficient skills and understanding of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint necessary. Ability to work independently while prioritizing workload.


Preferred:
1. Specific healthcare or workforce development experience is a plus.
2. Experience with Virtual Training/Webinar technologies (e.g. Webex, GoTo, Zoom).
3. Experience with project management tools and software (e.g., Asana, Trello, etc.).


Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
