About Us:

The Ohio Digital Academy (ODA) is seeking a web application developer to join our July cohort! Selected developer will join the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce (DEW) Information Technology Office and will be learning relevant skills and technologies including cloud development and application architecture with Microsoft Azure, .NET, Angular, IaaS, PaaS, C#, SQL, Git/GitHub, DevOps, etc.

As an emerging high-tech hub, Ohio is cultivating an innovation environment and skilled workforce primed to meet the advanced technology and cybersecurity needs of the state’s public and private sector employers.

The Ohio Digital Academy seeks to create a technology workforce pipeline by training and employing early entrants to the industry and setting them on a path to careers for in-demand fields such as cybersecurity, coding, software engineering, user experience design, cloud engineering/architecture, and data analytics.

Selected analysts earn $25 an hour beginning the first day of employment and attend an intensive four-week training program that focuses on civil service training, leadership, technical training & exercises, and professional development within 30 days of hire.

In exchange for a three-year service commitment to the State of Ohio, analysts receive:

  • Tuition or loan reimbursement of $20,000 or $40,000 (expenses must be from within one year of joining ODA or while in the program)

The Ohio Digital Academy is a division housed in the Ohio Department of Administrative Services (DAS) created and led by CyberOhio in collaboration with the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation (OWT).

What You'll Do:

Under direct guidance and supervision, works toward acquiring the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform entry-level duties with the Information Technology Office’s application development team:

  • Web application development for applications used by schools, districts, and Ohio citizens.
  • Integrate applications with core cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure APIs and relational database management systems.
  • Participate in available training, with the opportunity to obtain Microsoft certifications – a growth mindset is important!
  • Assist with all aspects of the application development lifecycle, including (but not limited to) requirements gathering, estimating level of effort, developing new functionality. unit testing, fixing bugs, debugging existing code, and data analysis.
  • Work side-by-side with a mentor on their day-to-day activities.
  • Connect with assigned champions and mentors daily and receive feedback on a regular basis.
  • Represent the agency and work with internal and external customers as needed.
  • Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, and take meeting notes as needed to support your work.

As an ODA Web Application Developer, you will be learning and working under the guidance of more experienced professionals. Your job duties will involve supporting them in various tasks while gaining hands-on experience and knowledge in the field of IT application development.

Minimum Qualifications

Prior or current experience, education, training, or certifications in Information Technology or related field.
