Job Description - Division of Molecular Medicine: Tenured Associate Professor/Professor

The University of Minnesota, Department of Medicine, Division of Molecular Medicine, is seeking to fill a research tenured position at the rank of Associate Professor or above. The Department of Medicine's Division of Molecular Medicine consists of faculty members who share the common goal of using molecular approaches to the understanding of human disease. A major theme in the division is the use of mouse models to investigate human diseases. The division serves as a common interdisciplinary corridor for research-oriented faculty and students in the MD, PhD program. The division is dedicated to better understanding the molecular and cellular basis of human disease and translating this into new diagnostics and therapeutics. Research within the Division of Molecular Medicine is dedicated to defining the metabolic determinants of chronic diseases. Genetically modified animal models and studies in human subjects are combined with sophisticated isotopic tracing, computational flux modeling, and metabolomics approaches to allow our research to fully encompass the complexities of integrated physiology in health and disease. Our researchers aim to leverage the knowledge acquired from our experimental investigations to prevent, identify, and treat metabolic diseases including insulin resistance, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, liver cancer, and cardiovascular disease.  Candidates must have completed a doctoral program in biomedical, chemical, or medical sciences and at least four years of formal postdoctoral training in biochemistry and physiology. Candidates must have developed proficiency in targeted analytical chemistry and metabolic flux analysis in mammalian systems. Ability to utilize the University of Minnesotaâ™s state of the art mass spectrometry and mouse physiology facilities, including the application of methods such as continuous infusions and collections from indwelling catheters, previously placed by the candidate, in the conscious rodent, is highly desirable.  A focused interest on the role of the liver in disease pathogenesis is a considerable benefit. The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to analyze and publish data gathered as described above. Success with these studies should be supported by prior attainment of senior author peer-reviewed scientific publications and independent extramural grant support. The most competitive candidates will also have experience teaching or mentoring undergraduate and graduate researchers and consulting with other scientists regarding the use of metabolic flux, biochemistry, and physiology.

Required Qualifications:
● A Ph.D. in biomedical, chemical, or medical sciences
● At least four years of relevant, formal post-doctoral training in biochemistry and physiology
● Proficiency in targeted analytical chemistry and metabolic flux analysis in mammalian systems Ability to receive work authorization in the United States from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and maintain your legal status according to the requirements of VISA category while in the United States.
