Job Description - Dock Handler

The Dock Handler is responsible for safely and efficiently retrieving inventory, sorting, handling and manually loading and unloading merchandise on a pallet, and shrink wrapping in accordance with verbal and written instructions, as well as Federal, State and customer regulations.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

 

  • Efficiently wrap and pack merchandise with packing slip or order details for each shipment, while maintaining a quick and steady pace and not compromising accuracy.
  • Move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, or containers by hand or using pallet jacks or other equipment.
  • Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs.
  • Control and maintain all records required for accurate, on-time completion of shipments.
  • Work in a team environment to accomplish work assignments.
  • Support and promote company core values.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Comply with company C-TPAT and TSA security procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum of a High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 0-2 years of experience. However, a combination of experience and/or education will be taken into consideration. Freight forwarding experience preferred.

 

Must be a team player with a high level of energy and self-motivation.

 

Self-starter with the ability to work with little direction in a fast-paced environment.

 

Must be PC proficient with ability to type and update computer system quickly and accurately.

 

Applicants must be able to pass TSA screening to work in an IAC environment.

 

Candidates will understand and carry out instructions given orally and in writing, including those on manifest and other shipping documents.

 

Candidates must possess good judgment; know when to escalate issues and when to try to resolve.

 

Ability to read, interpret and comply with written information and documents such as safety rules, operations / procedure manuals and maintenance instructions with a high comprehension and concentration level to include the ability to meet deadlines.

 

Ability to read and interpret general business documents.

 

Ability to write routine reports and general business correspondence. Ability to work with peers and communicate basic concepts.

 

Ability to solve practical problems through standardized solutions that require limited judgment. Ability to follow prescribed and detailed procedures to solve routine problems.

 

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and will be subject to a criminal history background check

 

Must be eligible to work in the United States.
