About the Team: At the heart of our inflatable restraint systems is the gas generate, most commonly referred to as an inflator. Within the North American Inflator Engineering team, consisting of 15 individuals, you will have the opportunity to apply many different Engineering disciplines in developing and applying the inflator into the many restraint systems ZF Passive Safety Systems produces. The disciplines include Mechanical (structure, static and dynamics, and gas flow), Chemical (stored gas and pyrotechnic makeup), Electrical (ignition), and Metallurgical (structural strength and fracture condition) to name a few. Position Summary: Product design & customer applications engineering support and production process improvement activity.

What you can look forward to as an Engineer III :

+ Responsible for inflator application engineering support for assigned customer programs and inflator technologies. Responsibilities in this area include establishing detailed program timing, preparation and execution of engineering development plans, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal & external customers and liaison with manufacturing operations to support new product launches and issue resolution activities.

+ Review product designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer-related specifications. Lead activities concerned with technical developments, customer interaction, and resolving engineering design and test problems.

+ Knowledge of inflator ballistic performance and tuning to meet system-level occupant restraint requirements, release of engineering drawings, specifications and related documentation including test plans and reports.

+ Responsible for planning and administering prototype builds to ensure on-time delivery to customers.

+ Use of engineering tools such as fault tree analysis, FMEA , statistical analysis, root cause analysis and margin testing. Application of Six Sigma tools in support of engineering efficiency and production process improvement projects.

+ Supports and actively participates in continuous improvement activities and applies Lean principles in efforts to reduce variation in our products and our processes.

+ Promotion of product quality and attainment of customer satisfaction by supporting plant quality objectives. Safety and Environmental responsibilities (including safety meetings, inspections, pollution prevention, etc.).

+ Must have hand dexterity at moderate speed with accuracy for half of each day. Requires steady, active effort and continuous walking. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work in all areas of the plant.

Your profile as an Engineer III -Mechanical:

+ Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace preferred).

+ 5+ years of related experience.

+ Must be self-motivating and able to complete work with limited supervision but also able to work effectively in a multi-cultural, global team environment.

+ Excellent oral and written communication, technical report writing and project management skills. Conversational German language a plus.

+ Must have strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of physics and engineering principles. Knowledgeable of basic statistics and statistical analysis. Computer skills, including Minitab, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; CAD software experience a plus.
