Job Summary

ATTENTION APPLICANTS: This vacancy is being announced at two different job classes at the same time, Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate. The final class and starting salary are dependent on the successful applicant’s qualifications.

This position is located at the Bridge Office in Oakdale, Minnesota. The position will have the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to complete a telework agreement if working a hybrid schedule.

Job Duties:

As a Bridge Operations Support Engineer, assists the Bridge Preservation Engineer in supporting bridge operations throughout the state. Responsibilities are to:

  • Provide bridge maintenance engineering assistance to district and local agency bridge owners for bridge incident response, reactive bridge maintenance, bridge maintenance contracts and other operations support needs; and
  • Ensure that bridge maintenance practices follow applicable workflows and are uniform, cost effective, state-of-the-art, performed consistently and safely by properly trained staff, are accurately tracked to evaluate bridge life cycle costs, and represent sound asset management practices.

The position requires travel up to 10% of the time to participate in discussions and provide guidance to district and local agency bridge crews. This includes some overnight travel for multi-day meetings and site visits to remote locations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer Senior:

  • Licensure as a professional civil engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. (If obtaining licensure through reciprocity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)
  • Experience in bridge design, inspection, maintenance, or preservation.
  • Experience analyzing and manipulating data.

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer 2 Graduate:

  • A Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university and two years post-graduation civil engineering work OR a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university and one year post-graduation civil engineering work.
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
  • Experience in bridge design, inspection, maintenance, or preservation.
  • Experience analyzing and manipulating data.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications for Engineer Senior:

  • Experience managing bridge and non-bridge structural assets.
  • Experience in bridge maintenance and preservation activities, methods, and materials.
  • Experience using bridge inspection and maintenance management software including the Structure Information Management System (SIMS) and TAMS.

Preferred Qualifications for Engineer 2 Graduate:

  • Experience in bridge maintenance activities, methods, and materials.
  • Experience using bridge inspection and maintenance management software including the Structure Information Management System (SIMS) and TAMS
