The Engineering Manager leads the Manufacturing and Quality Engineering team at the Mesa, AZ location. The Engineering Manager is responsible for maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of all production related manufacturing/test equipment and processes to ensure we manufacture high quality products in a repeatable and cost-effective manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership:

+ Provide leadership and ongoing coaching to the Engineering teams

+ Assist team members with career pathing plans for long term professional development

+ Promote culture of operational excellence, success and teamwork that aligns with ABT’s core values

Manufacturing Engineering:

+ Establish objectives, schedules, and priorities for Manufacturing Engineering activities.

+ Plan and coordinate required resources for the Manufacturing Engineering team

+ Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, work flow, and design layout of equipment / work space for maximum efficiency.

+ Define, propose, and implement capital equipment for process improvements.

+ Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary problem solving teams. Help determine and implement solutions.

+ Make product dependent process and flow presentations to customers.

+ Maximize product quality and minimize product liability exposure by utilization of manufacturing technology and quality control.

+ Provide key inputs and drive DFX (Design for Manufacturability, Design for Cost, Design for Test etc.) during design reviews/changes.

+ Develop efficient and quality-driven manufacturing processes for new products using Lean Manufacturing techniques.

+ Manage and facilitate transition of new product from engineering to production as well as facility transfers and set up.

+ Establish and maintain work instructions for new and existing products to optimize manufacturability.

+ Establish and meet schedules for the introduction of new methods, new products or cost reductions. Review the engineering change and release activity.

Quality Engineering:

+ Quality Requirements

+ Uses high level competency of industry specifications ( IPC , J- STD , AS, ISO , Mil- STD , etc.) and practices to flow customer contractual requirements to all departments.

+ Supports internal QMS efficiency and ensures compliance with AS and ISO standards.

+ Process Validation

+ Participates in new product introductions and validates processes through Quality Assurance Control.

+ Identifies control methods for manufacturing processes by performing and updating FEMAs.

+ Ensures calibration of inspection equipment is maintained and performed as required.

+ Issue Identification

+ Participates with core teams using structured process improvement methodology to identify opportunities for improvement by monitoring key performance metrics.

+ Using statistical methods, identifies and monitors critical manufacturing processes, raising the alarm when necessary and implementing solutions and countermeasures to ensure consistent production of quality products.

+ Problem Solving

+ Utilizes problems solving methodologies to determine root causes of problems and implement effective and sustainable solutions.

+ Participates as an essential member of the Corrective Action team. Consistently uses the Corrective Action Request ( CAR ) process to address and solve issues.

+ Verifies effectiveness of problem resolution by monitoring production performance after solution implementation.

+ Other Responsibilities

+ Works directly with customer and suppliers for quality audits, source inspections and quality concerns

+ Ensures all employees are trained as required. Ensures that all quality training programs are kept up to date to latest contractual requirements and technologies.

+ Performs other tasks as required by Supervisor.

Job Requirements

+ BS in Engineering or related. Advanced degree preferred.

+ Minimum 5 years Manufacturing Engineering experience

+ Minimum 3 years leadership experience in a manufacturing environment

+ Experience in Lean Manufacturing environment

+ Experience utilizing Lean Six Sigma tools ( FEMA , Fishbone, 5 Why, 8D, Value Stream Map, Process Flow, A3, etc.)

+ Experience using Quality tools and practices

+ Excellent Problem Solving, Statistical and Analytical skills

+ Excellent computer skills including expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills

+ Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills

+ Ability to interact well and coach team members

+ Excellent computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

+ Experience with Lean manufacturing

+ Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds

+ Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
