Job Description - Environmental specialist / environmental technician

Our Cultural Values are: Dedicated Service, Respect, Teamwork and Engaged Innovation.The Town of Marana is seeking an Environmental Specialist or Environmental Technician to work in the Development Services Department. This is a full-time position and an exciting opportunity for someone interested in stormwater compliance, environmental permitting and plan review.

Environmental Specialist Salary: 

  • Expected Hiring Range: $24.31 - $29.78
  • Salary Range: $24.31 - $35.25

  
Environmental Technician Salary: 

  • Expected Hiring Range: $22.30 - $27.32
  • Salary Range: $22.30 - $32.34

*placement within the salary range is dependent on direct experience, internal equity and/or budget

  • Conducts monthly inspection scheduling, mapping, and inspecting for private and public projects as well as inspection of the Towns facilities in coordination with the Environmental Project Manager for the implementation of the Stormwater Manager Program; maintains the Town’s stomwater mapping database
  • Reviews engineering plans and technical documents for compliance with environmental, cultural, and stormwater regulations and attends pre-application meetings
  • Assists with environmental permitting for Capital Improvement Projects
  • Facilitates outreach trainings to citizens and staff; represents the Town at various environmental meetings
ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in natural science, environmental science, engineering or closely related field.
  • Over three years’ experience in stormwater inspections, environmental programs, compliance permitting, or closely related field.
  • A valid Arizona Driver License
  • Must pass a pre-employment Physical
  • Ability to pass both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check 

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered.

 

  ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in natural science, environmental science, engineering or closely related field.
  • Over six months experience in stormwater inspections, environmental programs, compliance permitting, or closely related field.
  • A valid Arizona Driver License
  • Must pass a pre-employment Physical
  • Ability to pass both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check 

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered.

 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Specialist
  • Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control
